How to get help with rent?

At times, many families find themselves homeless, or unable to continue to occupy the premises of their choice. This may be due to fire, accident, storms or many other causes, but often it is merely a problem in paying the rent. Illness that forces a breadwinner to stay home, or loss of a job; any and all of these conditions can put a family in need of temporary assistance to tide itself over until the members of the family find themselves again in a position to pay their own rent without the need of subsidising or other rental assistance.

Agencies have been set up in many parts of the country to help in this regard. Non-profit organizations, these charities, such as The Salvation Army, as well as some governmental agencies are often able to offer emergency rental assistance for families who are being evicted by a landlord, or who simply have no way to pay their rent at the moment. Realizing that landlords, despite the old cartoon imagery of a rich greedy person feeding off the work of renters, the vast majority of landlords are not really making a profit at all on the current tenant. This is only a stopgap so that the landlord may pay the monthly house payments in the hope of some future profit if housing increases in value some years later. If the tenant can’t pay the rent, the landlord may soon find himself in the same position with regard to the lender. Lenders do not want to hear sad stories.

Although these different programs for rental assistance may be available, much depends upon the funding at the moment. Some programs quickly run out of money and are simply unable at the moment to provide further help to persons in need of assistance.

The vast majority of families in need of temporary rental assistance are those to be found in the low-income range; seniors, disable persons and children are among those most often affected. Others too, faced at one point or another with a temporary emergency may qualify for assistance in these cases.

In most cases, those in need of longer-term assistance, persons who have not been gainfully employed for a considerable length of time with not prospects for the immediate future may not qualify for rental assistance under these temporary emergency programs.

Those more likely to receive aid are persons who are able to convince interviewers of their willingness to do what is necessary to get back on their feet along with the ability to do so. Since emergency funding is considered a short-term “fix” for a crisis situation, the grants may be only issued for a few days, perhaps to defray the cost of a motel room, pending the applicant’s ability to find other lodgings.

Therefore it is important, in most similar cases, for the applicant to show the interviewer the imminent possibility to become self-sufficient.

Most non-profit agencies as well as other agencies attempt to work closely with rental assistance applicants to help them with any additional support as needed depending upon each applicant’s situation. Often applicants are further given counseling and referrals to other agencies that may be more helpful to an applicant.

In such cases, any additional services rendered are free to the applicant in crisis. This may include lack of employment and such other problems that may arise such as medical emergencies. Most agencies participate in these endeavors as well as teaching applicants the processes involved in applying for governmental programs, immediate rehousing and how to apply for Section 8 vouchers as well as information about low income housing, and assistance in paying the security deposits that are almost universally demanded by today’s rental market.

Since the goal of all similar agencies to to render aid to persons in immediate need of emergency housing and other crisis situations, the funds issued to applicants for rent or other necessities is only meant to allow the applicant extra time to deal with the emergency. However, at the same time, applicants will normally be provided with support in the long term to guard against similar future emergencies.

If you have an eviction notice or expect to be unable to pay the rent in the immediate future, or even realize that you need to find less expensive living quarters, now is the time to apply for assistance. Often with early application, money may be available to catch up unpaid rent as well as other options that may be explained to you.

Assistance may also be available to help with the security deposit, the initial rents and even moving costs. In some cities non-profit agencies may offer other emergency assistance to those in crisis. These funds are normally paid out on a one-time basis. Depending upon the location, resources that may be in place for housing crisis families can be wide-ranging.

Potential applicants are advised to find the telephone numbers as well as any other information available to them and educate themselves about the different programs that may be able to help with emergency assistance.

Not only non-profit private agencies, but many governmental agencies, are able to provide interim assistance, depending on the locality. Massachusetts has a program called RAFT, while in Texas a rental assistance program called TDHCA is available. Florida has a similar program called EFAHP and in Connecticut their program is called RAP. Many other government programs around the country also offer assistance to pay rent or a portion of overdue rent in their ongoing efforts to reduce the growing threat of homelessness in their particular communities.

Another program, called the Federal Stimulus Program is a little-known program through which our federal government provides billions of dollars across the nation to provide rental assistance for qualified applicants. These funds have become invaluable to families that find it increasingly difficult to keep up with the rising costs of rent and other housing needs.

HUD the Housing and Urban Development, agency works throughout the country as well. A number of families approaching two million are able to use this program, a program that can not only help those in need to pay their rent and/or security deposits, but HUD can issue vouchers to provide temporary housing as well as providing assistance to senior citizens and the disabled to keep up with overdue rental payments.

These programs not only offer grants to help pay rent, but the government Rent Voucher Program aids applicants to seek housing in the privately owned housing market.

These agencies can, generally, offer legal advice to those facing eviction. Every year millions of people receive free legal advice and assistance to educate them with the eviction process and their rights as well as responsibilities. The government provides funded Legal Services Corp. which provides attorneys who may mediate a solution between landlord and tenants in addition to advising tenants of their rights as well as help them apply for Section 8 or other assistance and another positive aid they offer is help and counseling on housing discrimination.

Counseling may also be provided to help applicants apply for government and/or private grants. Money is available for many of these crisis situations.

It is the goal of these agencies to prevent evictions wherever possible. The federal government as well as the many non-profit private agencies strive wherever possible to help applicants remain in their current quarters without the fear of being summarily evicted. Often these agencies are able not only to prevent evictions, but subsequent lawsuits that may be brought against a tenant. Alternatively, the agency may be able to find more suitable and affordable housing for an applicant facing eviction.

Many churches too offer funds that can help those in short-term financial difficulties. United Way and The Salvation Army are only two of the better-known charitable institutions that may be able to offer help when needed. Generally they give priority to those living in apartments and facing short-term financial crises.

A good number of other national and local charities are ready to help with the expenses of rent and other essential needs as well as providing case management and many other social services. No all charities have ready money all the time, but even those may be able to help by helping an applicant with information about other resources and assistance in applying for free grants to pay overdue rent.

Other agencies that often provide help might be, for example, Catholic Charities, Social Service Offices, United Way, the American Red Cross, the Legal Aid Society and as mentioned earlier, The Salvation Army. Aside from these examples there exist many other emergency aid agencies for those who are able to become informed.

While most of these programs provide only short-term emergency aid, they are designed for the most part to tide a family over until a longer-term solution becomes available. Often these same agencies will be able to direct qualified applicants to resources that may assist them in finding an apartment or house for more permanent security.

It is important however, during these times of crisis, to keep in touch with creditors and the applicant’s current landlord so they understand what you are doing and what you expect to accomplishment. It is important that the applicant be extremely honest with everyone about the situation and it may sometimes be possible to have monthly payments temporarily lowered, or even be allowed to skip a monthly rental payment. Other plans may be devised and put into place to avoid being evicted.

It is well-understood that not only landlords but other creditors too are much more willing to cooperate with persons who are up-front with them, honest in their discussions and show a willingness to cooperate and do whatever they can to improve with situations.

How to get help with bills?

Ask The Energy Company

if energy bills are the source of the hardship, then the energy providers’ own in-house programs are often the quickest way to help rearrange and meet repayments.

LIHEAP: Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

This national program’s focus is on subsidies for repairs, weatherproofing and utility bills that families cannot afford to pay.

LIHEAP covers any energy related home repairs for low-icome families, including seasonal expenses like air cooling systems and winter heating bills. The local LIHEAP office is the first point of contact for those in need of energy or utility assistance. Eligibility varies from state to state.

WAP: Weatherization Assistance Program

The WAP is a federal grant organized by the Department of Energy that helps needy families improve their homes’ energy efficiency, and has assisted over 7 million households across many states, territories and Native American tribes since its inception in 1976.

According to the DOE guidelines, a household with anyone over 60 is eligible for the WAP, as are legally recognized disabled people. Most states make families with children eligible, and the website for the WAPTAC (Weatherization Assistance Program Technical Assistance Center) can advise others if the grants are available in their area, and whether they qualify.

LifeLine Assistance: Free Cell Phones

Americans in need of a cell phone plan but without the means to maintain one can get assistance from LifeLine Assistance‘s free phone program. This is indeed a lifeline as daily life and business in particular is practically impossible without a mobile phone.

LLA is an FCC mandated scheme offering a free cell phone with at least 250 monthly minutes included. It’s available in the 49 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico, and typically requires a household income below 135% of Federal Poverty guidelines. For some states it is below 150%. Eligibility varies across participating states, with slightly different rules around qualifying income.

Other sources of help are available at state government level, or many national and local non-profit and charity organizations, and the energy companies themselves.

How to get Food For Free?

It doesn’t always require money to eat, and there are many ways to gain free food without adding to your debts or joining the 10% of Americans who have resorted to shoplifting. Ask people you know, or traders and restaurant and store owners.

Above all it’s important to explain why you are asking for food: because you can’t afford to eat. And not to be critical about what food you eat. Without a certain amount of money, there is no longer the choice of what to eat. So meat may become harder to get or if meat’s all that’s on offer and you are a vegetarian, it’s best to accept it with thanks.

Grow Your Own, Share With The Community

The most sustainable – and satisfying – way to provide free food for yourself is to grow it, and you can start with just seeds if you live in the country or with just a small space in the city. Guerrilla gardening is an interesting urban option, more organised community gardens and allotments can share space and expertise for growing, and seed swapping communities among gardeners are a good source of materials and encouragement.

Ask A Farmer

Out in the sticks there won’t be the option of stores and restaurants as a source of food, but ask any farmer and there’ll be some left on the fields that they didn’t or can’t sell. Many will let you pick these leftovers.

Food Banks

A rapidly growing movement in the United Kingdom and US is the organized and charitable distribution of food to those who can’t afford it. Most of the food is donated, and food banks are one of the easiest ways to obtain some nutritious food. Many banks have conditions for who they can give food to, but there is no need to be ashamed about visiting one.

Offers and coupons

Online and direct from the stores, many coupons are available to promote new products. And companies across the United States send out free samples of new products. They’re unlikely to provide a healthy, balanced diet on their own but could supplement free food from other sources.

Waste Food

In an affluent country there is an abundance of unsold or waste food, and a little social interaction and resourcefulness can unlock access to a surprising amount of it.

Ask at the market

Often around closing time, stall holders will sell off any remaining stock for next to nothing, and it’s always worth telling them you have no money and asking if they’ll give you something for free. You can often pick up some fruit or salad, and if they can’t offer anything, thank them anyway and ask at another stall.

Free Supermarket Food

Ask at the big stores and you’ll be too far down the chain of command: “My boss doesn’t allow us to do that” will be the usual answer. So smaller supermarkets and neighborhood stores are a better option, where you can talk to that boss. You may find warmth and generosity among Muslims and immigrants to the West who run stores.

Restaurant Leftovers

It requires some patience, a little nerve and a bit of practice, but it’s possible to get free, professionally prepared food, even a table to sit and eat it at. Restaurant districts in cities are obviously the best place to try this, and expect a success rate around 5%, so it requires persistence, but will sharpen your bargaining skills, and who knows where else that could lead?

Turn up at a restaurant after the busiest time but not too late, and explain that you have no money and ask if they have some left overs in the kitchen. It can help to have a container such as a plastic box ready in case they do have something, and if they’re friendly and can’t offer anything the first time, maybe they can put something aside the next day.

Searching and Foraging

It grows on trees, on the ground and some seasons there’ll be abundant fruit and tasty plants such as dandelions or chickweed. Even cities can produce some tasty wild food, and anyone near downtown Seattle has access to America’s first Food Forest in a major city.

Dumpster Diving

Growing media coverage of the colossal food wastage at supermarkets and restaurants has made it much less weird, and more popular, to search through the dumpsters in search of some quality food to turn into a meal.

Bills and debt relief please

Hi,

First, if you are reading this, I would like to thank you for taking the time to do so. I am not here to waste anyone’s time or take advantage of anyone’s generosity.

I would like to start out by saying that I am 29 years old and have always had a horrible time managing my finances. I was never taught. I came from a very poor family, one that would use my birthday money that I had saved up, to keep the heat on in the winter. Although that is not an excuse, I really aspire to learn to save and live a life that doesn’t include “living paycheck to paycheck”.

My request for assistance starts with the fact that I have a large amount of student loan debt ($30,000). I never graduated, but instead dropped out to pursue a career as a firefighter which I am still pursuing today. My loans that I have in my name, I have never been able to afford to pay myself. I have always lived paycheck to paycheck. There have been plenty of times where I have had 2-3 jobs as well. My parents also pay parent plus loans and have been for several years now and they are pressuring me to pay loans that I do not have money for. I am one of 8 children, mind you. This college debt not only effects my family but my credit as well. I will never be able to own a home. I can’t even apply for credit cards. I feel stuck.

My second reason for asking for help is that I just lent $600 to a very close friend of mine who is a single mother and called me in tears, because she couldn’t afford to keep her utilities on or pay her car payment/insurance. Even though I myself, can barely afford my bills, I couldn’t not help her. She is going to pay me back but I have told her to take her time getting back on her feet and I cannot pressure her. I am not a debt collector.

I now sit here, with a bank account that is severely in the negatives(-$924) and I’m wondering how is it that I am going to pay my every day bills such as rent, food, electric, car bills, etc. Along with trying to eventually make a dent in my student loans that drag my credit score down into the ground.

I want to be able to climb out of this awful hole that I have dug for myself. I want to be able to learn how to manage my finances better. If I could get assistance and even just get myself out of the negatives, I plan on contacting a financial advisor. I want to do better when it comes to money. I have always dreamt of being able to provide for my family and giving them the life they deserve one day. I want to have kids and a life. None of this will ever be possible if my finances continue on like they are now.

Need help

Hello
I am a 32 year old single man from Norway.
I dont really know what to say, because I never really thought I would end up in this position, but here goes.

I’m not sure how this all works in other countries, but atleast in Norway, we tax quite a lot of our income, between 28-37% ..ish
but my tax card had been wrong all year, so at the end of the year when my taxpapers came, it had an amount of 58000NOK (around ~6800 USD)
an amount I was not able to pay, so I had to use my credit card, which tops out at 20000NOK(~2300USD) and take up a loan for the rest.

So those two payments were fine, I was able to barely manage through the month living very cheaply.
Then later, as winter came along, I had to travel to my Mothers place, where I kept the studded tires for my car. This trip is a 3 hour travel, and when I was almost there I met a patch of slushy snow, lost control and wrecked my car.
The police that came at the scene found me at fault for not having the right tires for the situation, and ended up with a nice fine of 5000NOK (around 590USD, vehicular tickets, fines and punishments are VERY expensive and severe in Norway). And then, to top it all off, since my tires were not right for the situation, that also affected my insurance, which only got me 2/3 of what the vehicle was worth, so I was not able to make a full downpayment on the loan I had on that car. So I had to find myself another car, which in turn was another loan of 20000NOK

So now im sitting here, with a maxed out credit card, a loan for my tax, a loan for a wrecked car, and a loan for the new car. Paying all of these off as a single man living in the middle of a big city is hard, so now I find myself using my paycheck to pay of a bit of every loan I have, and then there are living expenses on top of it, and I feel there is just too many different loans, I am trying to pay off my creditcard, but Wind up having to use the credit card again to pay the rest of my bills, and end up using that until the end of the month.
At this rate I feel like my credit card might actually start to max out before my next paycheck comes, and then i’ll have an actual problem.

I just really want some help to pay of some of my loans so I can get back on track and live again, without having to worry about all these things that are gnawing on my mind in every waking moment.

Pandemic

Hello, my name is Rick and I have been in the process of trying to build a house. However, due to the recent pandemic and the COVID issues in the world, building materials have basically doubled in price and everything has seemed to go up in price, which has put a severe financial burden on me. The whole process of building a house is very long and exhausting and once I had everything ready to go and plans in order, the pandemic had other plans and not just for me but for everyone. I am one that usually does not want or ask for help, but if anyone can be generous enough to give it would be greatly appreciated and not taken for granted. Emergency!Need help to help my son get to doctors appointments and specialist

is Michael when he was admitted in children’s hospital of Alabama when my son was six months old he had his first seizure. Febrile seizure is what they said it was. Michael stayed sick a lot always having a fever and they would come out of nowhere you have a great day playing running around and then ever drop of a hat he had a high grade fever. Doctors will play it off as it’s cold stuff like that because with Michael he’ll be sick and then you take him to the doctor and he’s fine be running playing laughing like nothing was ever wrong and it happened like that every time in August I’ve lost my job due to my health I’m a single mom who worked as a waitress. I’ve been getting seeing specialist myself come to find out my pancreas don’t work so I’m having to take medicine everyday with every single thing that I eat my gallbladder didn’t work they immediately took it out test came back abnormal. I have multiple other health issues and i was supposed to see a neurologist for the parasthesia that started in my head and is now completely all over my body I have two knots in the back of my head im supposed to see a dermatologist and continue seeing my GI specialist They actually sent a letter saying I needed to come in for a recall ultrasound. Because my sons health has been declining it was a Friday and I noticed that my son had a temperature of 99.9 I went ahead and gave him some Tylenol because as his mom I know him and know that it was just going to keep going up that morning at 3:00 Saturday my son went to another seizure I had him in my arms I hurt his passy hit the floor and I can hear him choking I immediately yelled for my step dad i put him on his side not knowing what to do just watching in panic as my baby struggles to get air. Eyes rolled up ,jerking . I was feeling helpless his pawpaw came got him and put some cool water on his feet eventually about 5 minutes later he finally came out of it though he wasnt very coherent and kept making a humming on and off sound. Ambulance finally arrived went to er we live in a small country town we only have a Dollar general and a gas station so when it comes to help they tend to take a little bit more time but time they got there Michael was out of the seizure but he was still not all the way coherent. That’s when it started everyday since that Friday night for nine days straight till he was admitted in children’s hospital my son had six seizures I had great fevers as high as 106.3 that we can control they will go down for maybe 30 minutes to an hour and they will shoot back up there was four implants cost hospital visits regional medical center of Anniston and said it was just a slight ear infection, Tanner of Georgia said that when they did the x-ray they were saying little bitty spot that is not quite bronchitis but there’s nothing antibiotics or anything can do that it would just go away on its own. His pediatrician showed his concerns but discovered the same thing in his chest he gave him a shot of antibiotics and told me he wanted me to come back in 24 hours if he hasn’t improved he was sending him to children’s. But he never did improve me not having a job and being a single parent my car insurance was canceled I couldn’t get my son back to the doctor that day . Day 8 my son is tired he began to get rashes that was a lot of heat in them his eyes begin to turn redish color, he was pale white his eyelids was purplished looking, if you touched him he would say ow. I called his doctor and informed him that he wasn’t better and he needed to go to children’s like he said he was going to send him but because I missed that appointment the day before they told me I had to go up there on my own and in the hospital a special hospital like children’s without a referral or a doctor sending you I was afraid that they would take my son seriously saying the other hospitals didn’t eventually he ended up calling children’s and we went. They immediately admitted my son they all seemed concerned listen to everything I had to say they ran multiple tests multiple blood works and come to find out my 1 year old son had Corona and Kawasaki disease the rheumatologist said that if they would have just did love work they would have seen something was wrong is high blood count position high he said it was all in the blood work we was on date night when we were submitted by day 10 my son was in the hospital and it’s a mom looking at her kid for the ivy in a baby crib and a hospital helpless not knowing what to do if my son was going to die and I didn’t know. They gave Michael a treatment kind of like chemo I guess i would say the Kawasaki disease attach the vessels especially of your heart so they had to bring in the cardiologist and he said that my son’s heart looks great we got to them just in time. My son was in the last stage of Kawasaki disease to get my miracle child who I was never supposed to have a miracle God blessed over my child and he blocked this disease from attacking him in the heart. Now that he’s home he’s great he hasn’t had no seizures other than at night time he will have a fever. Your specialist he still has to see but now I have no way to take him because I have no car insurance and with them canceling that they also canceled my car registration.his doctor’s appointments are over an hour away with best best medical team in Alabama with all the seizures and he now and he has two knots in back of his head as well they want to check and make sure his brain didn’t suffer any damage due to the seizures and they’re going to check them. He complains of headaches and he sleep walks now. I could have had a job I had one supposed to call me but the phone company shut my cell phone off because I can’t afford it I don’t like asking for help I don’t know what else to do I want to go to work and support my son and take him back and forth to his doctors tell him I’m asking me anything anything will help so I can get my car back on the road legally . I Run a Gay Bar in Siem Reap Cambodia with my Khmer partner and I assure you straight away (no pun intended) this is not a Covid-19 request as me and my partner set aside the rent and bills for the pandemic as best we could, but a emergency request due to a … Well, disaster.

2 days ago during the night there was a power surge and well….to cut a long story short, our computer, amplifier and speakers blew up.

Need lawyer money

On March 7th my life was changed by a cop in fulton county Arkansas. On that evening about 1030 pm I was meeting a friend of mine to give him some money so as I was waiting I drove around down some dirt roads I stopped at the end of one that was the road my friend should be coming down would be on. As I was sitting there using my phone so I wouldn’t be texting as driving my radar detector went off so I put the phone down hit my turn signal and made a left headed in the direction of the cop. I meet the cop and I continued toward the hwy and the cop continued the other from what I seen. I made it to the yield sign and made a right I got a phone call saying I left my wallet with all my money at someone’s house so I get down on it and try to hurry on up so I don’t get everything taken from my wallet. So I start speeding, it’s a small area and when you see one cop it’s usually good for a little ways. I get up to speeds of llin my 2016 Dodge Ram which is very easy to do and just cruise the radio is up and I’m just trying to get to my wallet that is my only worry at that moment.. This road I am on is pretty straight besides a few wide turns and goes from two lane to three lane for passing. So after a couple minutes of cruising along I look in my rear view mirror and see blue lights directly on my rear bumper I atart panicking a little I let off the gas but I don’t hit the brakes cause at that speed I don’t want him to rear end me cause he was so close, he then pulled on to the driver side of the vehicle and preformed the PIT maneuver on my truck I lost control and hit the ditch rolled and landed in a pond on its wheels. I was dazed and confused on what had just happened I crawled out of the smashed to pieces ram window into a cold pond. I feel a excruciating pain in my back I start toward the bank the officer is yelling at me to get my hands up! I lift them as high as possible which is making my back scream in pain I double over a couple times into the water the officer yells at me about a pistol I say I swear there are no weapons I finally make it close to the bank and the officer says “why where you running” and I replied with “I wasn’t running I was speeding” “where is the Ambulance” he answered saying it was on it’s way. I get pulled on to the bank and lay on my back and wait. The Ambiance finally arrives the first responders help load me into it and off we go I’m hurting more then I ever have before we make it to white river medical center in Batesville, Arkansas I’m taken to the emergency room as trauma. They take me in for CT scans to my head and my back it shoes damage to my back thankfully no injuries to my head neck or no internal bleeding. A officer comes in im still laying there in a craziness fog trying to comprehend what was really happening the officer reads some stuff and asks me for a urine sample i say I can’t he makes me sign a paper while he is standing there before leaving I say can I try in a few mins cause I just can’t right this min he said I refused and “he wasn’t going to sit up here all night waiting for me to pee” and he left. The hospital decided to admitted me and bring me to a room where I spend the next few days recovering and researching about Pit maneuverer and how it is considered “deadly Force” and I spoke to different people about the whole situation everyone I spoke to agreed that there was no reason to pit maneuver. I had someone check the distance from the spot where I turned to the spot of the crash site and it was 6 miles so at 90mph to go 6 miles that is 2.29 mins in two and a half mins this officer seen me speeding and decided to stop me with the most forceful way possible and gamble with my life. From what I’ve read the PIT maneuver is for extreme circumstances and I feel this is far from extreme he had no regards for human life and did what he wanted to do he drove speeds up to 140 to even catch up to me. He accused me of driving that fast I assume cause he was but my truck doesn’t go that fast. Anyways I am setting up this go fund me page to help me with all the expenses that are going to come with this. I thought I had full coverage insurance on my truck but my separated wife failed to pay the insurance on the vehicles while I was recently doing a sanction so now because of this Rambo officer I have a truck that is totaled that I still owe on. Also legal expenses because of the second officer I’m going to have charges in relation to dwi any and all help would be appreciated I have a law firm that is going to look into the civil side of this but to do that we’ve got to look at the dwi side I just want to leave y’all with this anyone of us that speed could have been in the Same situation as me. The facts are that no officer should ever be allowed to PIT a vehicle at high rate of speeds without exhausting other means and because he didn’t he has changed my life horribly I have broke my back from l1 to “l5 and t9 I have a back brace and I’m getting around thank you for any support

A helper in need of a hand

Hello Stranger,

If you told me 5 years ago that I would need to ask for money from a stranger to pay down debt, I would have looked at you sideways, and tsk’d. Yet, here I am doing that very thing. I have been in this place before (on a smaller scale) about 20 year’s ago. I was a young, single mom, trying to raise my kid’s without state assistance while making minimum wage. We struggled, and moved around alot, and finally after many years of payday loans, collections, a vehicle repossession and my kids growing up and having kids of their own, I was able to get myself out of debt and have a 760 credit score (which is important to me). At the end of 2015, my youngest daughter whom was struggling herself was constantly getting stranded with her 2 baby daughter’s due to a junk car that I wouldn’t want my enemy to drive. It was such heartache to get the calls for assistance from her knowing that I could only do so much. Finally, I decided to take on a car note and I purchased her a brand new car. By the time I drove off the lot, I pretty much paid/am paying double for the car. This car note has been a thorn in my side because I have other debt that I am paying down from helping my grandkids/kids out over the years (no regrets). Sadly, the car (Kia Soul) I purchased was a lemon of sorts… the catalytic converter was replaced 4 times in 4 years and the engine was replaced twice. Luckily we’ve been under warranty for all those unfortunate events, but we are no longer under warranty and I’m afraid It’ll happen again. Nonetheless, I still owe $9550.18 for the car and the thought of paying the car note for 2 more years is daunting, especially if the engine fails again. I will have to pay out of pocket for any future repairs. I would love some help paying the car off this year so I can then replace that bill with another and not be so strained for money each payday. I am a hardworker and have been with the same employer for almost 17 years. I have volunteered many hours of my time for Hospice, and for Catholic Community Services. I donate to St. Jude monthly. In the past I’ve donated gallons of blood, donated plasma and platelets and I’m on the National bobe marrow donor registry. I even went so far as to donate a kidney (to a complete stranger). I am naturally a giver, and now I could use a little help. Anything you can offer would be sunshine on a gloomy rainy day.

Need help with rent & other bills

Today I woke up and decided that it was time to really ask for help. I’m 22 years old, a responsible, intelligent individual. I tend to always plan ahead, calculate my expenses and take it day by day by doing what is working for me, but everyday it just keeps getting harder and harder for me. I moved into my first apartment August 22nd, 2020. I was so excited to finally be free of parents and adults and just live under my own rules and do things my own way, that I had saved enough money to be able to do. I always knew it was expensive to move but I didn’t realize how fast and how much you’d need the things you do for your house. So I moved (out of state, from Maryland to North Carolina) and I had a job that seemed like it would pay for everything with no problems. So I knew things were going to be okay, as I started working there which I started the very next day after I moved into my apartment, I was happy and so joyful, but the more I would go to that job the more they would do suspicious things and just wouldn’t do things professionally, and one night I had an anxiety attack and it made it so hard for me to continue working for or even DRIVE to that job just because I would be so anxious every time (horrible feeling), I wanted to quit that same night but I have bigger bills now so I tried to get over it, so after working there and waiting THREE weeks on my first paycheck, after I got my paycheck I seen how low it was and I was SO disappointed that I decided to quit because for 1 my anxiety was definitely getting in the way of my work, we would have to be there for 10-12 hours so by the time I get off I have to wake up and do it all over again 5 days a week (mind you I just moved into my first apartment, so I never had time to even be there, unpack or anything) & then after doing things I don’t like and having to wait forever on a paycheck that could not even pay more than 1 bill.. I couldn’t take it. So I got a new job about a week or 2 later at uhaul I was happy to be back at a job considering I have expensive bills, BUT the pay was only $10, I use to be a server so i wouldn’t leave my job with less than 150-250 everyday, so to go from having cash EVERY DAY to waiting on a check that doesn’t even pay rent .. is sad. I’ve been trying to find ways to make new money, I have a hair and nail business I am trying to start and because I NEVER have money for myself anymore I can’t start it or even grow right now

. I currently doordash to help pay for some things but nobody tips enough these days most tips are $3-5 and that’s not enough. I have about 3 people that can sometimes help me but I ask them for help so much I feel so bad every time and I owe them and it’s always hard for me to pay them back because i usually only have enough money for gas or food but barely both unless i work extra but all my money goes straight to bills or overdrafts & my bank account is always over drafted. I can never save, or have enough to get every thing I need, I always have to sacrifice and pick one or the other, My rent was due and it’s almost a whole new month, and I’m so backed up and behind on things i really don’t know if I’ll ever get out of this situation. Sigh it saddens me because I’ve ALWAYS been good with my money, bills were ALWAYS paid on time and in full, just to move and have the complete opposite happen. I suffer from anxiety and depression so I’m NEVER really happy & with all this going on in my everyday life it’s hard to not let it take over. So i just ask for any help i can get and hope for the best.

Escape an abusive relationship

My story is quite long and very true. I don’t even know where to start. My husband left me in 2017. I still love and miss him everyday. I was a stay home wife/mother. When he left him and his family rocked my world. I didn’t have a dime. I had no way to hire a lawyer. I lost everything. I still have dreams about the events that took place. Within 2 months he had another woman pregnant. I was depressed and devastated. I was now on my own out in the real world for the very first time. I made some new friends (who I soon found out weren’t friends at all) and began a new life. I got a job and my first apartment. I made it three months before I was evicted. A man I had become friends with offered me a room at his home on a small ranch in Bandera, Tx. No charge! I took the offer and moved in. 20 miles in the middle of nowhere-ville, I found myself broke, without gas and stuck. My loneliness made me blind to the fact that this man wasn’t working and blind to his lies that this was actually his home. (It wasn’t. It was owned by someone else who I found out later had been demanding we get out of his home and off of his property) I had no clue this was even happening at the time. When this man would show up my friend called him his uncle and would go outside and visit with him. I never met his “uncle” aka land lord. I soon found myself falling for (we will call him Jack) Jack. Jack was handsome and very believable and persuasive. I cooked, cleaned, repaired damages to his home: fed animals etc. if it needed to be done, I did it. We lived together here for about 8 months before Jack was arrested on an ok’d warrant. He had gone to town one day and didn’t come back. I was alone and stuck out in this ranch. It was so scary for me. Very spooky. One day his mother shows up and tells me jack called and asked her to please take care of the beautiful blonde at his house and let me know he’d be home soon. I told her I was fine, we exchanged numbers and we parted ways. It was less than 48 hours later that Jack’s “uncle” aka land lord showed up. With Jack being gone, I was able to speak with him. This is when I figured out that I was a squatter in his home and he had been patient long enough. He threatened to call the police if I didn’t leave his property ASAP. I apologized and explained my situation. I assured him I never meant any disrespect and was humiliated that I had been squatting at his home and believed it belonged to Jack. Feeling very lost and scared, not knowing anyone or having anywhere to turn I called Jack’s mother. She said Jack’s old room was available for me to stay in, at her house. So I Ickes up my things, AGAIN, and moved. Yet again my world was shook up. A week or so later Jack was able to come home. For some reason I was so excited to see him. He played victim to the eviction and allegations made by his uncle. Like a fool I believed him. I think deep down I knew better, but at this point he was all I had and all I knew. It was a few short months later that Jack became abusive mentally, emotionally and verbally. Already being so knocked down from losing my husband, my hone, my belongings, then the eviction followed by being thrown out of Jack’s house and put ina very vulnerable situation I had become a very weak woman. Thinking I needed Jack I stayed. He would leave for days at a time, done back home and demand sex and respect. When he wanted to leave again he would attack me. Accuse me of cheating or doing this or that. Victimize himself and blame me for the fact that he now HAD to leave to get some space and settle his nerves. He said I should be ashamed of myself for causing these issues for us. This went on for months and inky got worse. I finally decided I’d leave jack and contacted an old friend from years before. He said he’d be happy to help me. We ended up dating for three months. He was very kind and good to me. I cared about him a lot. When Jack found out where i was he came to me and begged me back. Confused, still lost and vulnerable, Jack still being the most familiar thing I had, I made the mistake of taking him back. I went back home with Jack. I stopped answering my friends calls and flat wasn’t aloud to sontact or speak to him. He never knew why I left. Never heard a word from me. I broke his heart. That broke my heart. I never wanted to hurt anyone. But I did. For that I am very sorry. Several months later I discovered I was pregnant. Jack and I went to the doctor for confirmation and scheduled a sono. It was at the sonogram appointment that Jack and I both realized that this baby was in fact my old friend whom I dissed and left for Jack. The man I walked out in and never contacted again, Jack was furious. He somehow convinced me that the baby’s father and his family were rich and would definitely take my baby. (Remember I had already lost everything that meant anything to me) Jack demanded I say he was the father in order to save me from losing this child. So that’s what I did. I was so great full he would step up and claim a child that wasn’t even his in order to protect him from being taken from me.
I was able to find us a small fixer upper apartment where the woman said we could live for free while fixing it up. I was excited to try and begin our life together as a family so I quickly excepted her offer. This is where I found myself stuck for the next 6 months. Pregnant I did every repair and diy remodel to that apartment that was ever done. I fell off of a ladder when hanging kitchen cabinets BY MYSELF, while pregnant. Jack was always gone running around and only came home to sleep and shower before he did it again. My vehicle eventually broke down, my cell phone turned off. We had no tv and only a bed in the bed room. I would love from the bed to a fold out camping chair in the living room. For days at a time I sat alone and just stared at the walls. Sometimes, well many times I was left without food for days at a time. When Jack would show back up after being gone for days he’d bring some food he’d go get from his moms. The food became less and less. Eventually the food became canned vegetables. That is it. At one point I realize now, that when Jack would walk in that door with a few cans of green beans and maybe some sweet corn, I became great full. I was excited to have company. Yay!! I wasn’t alone anymore! I’d hug and kiss Jack and thank him for the food. I was just so great full! Sounds crazy I know. I never thought I’d have ever been so weak, but abuse messes us up and our minds are altered to think differently. I was pathetic and I was allowing this behavior. Not realizing at the time that this man was punishing me. At one point I became very ill. I was rushed to the Er where I was put on iv antibiotics and monitoring for 9 days straight. Dr said I was lucky to have not died or lost the baby. He said I arrived just in the nick of time. My body had been poisoning itself. I was slowly going septic and didn’t know it. Jack never came to the hospital not one time the entire time I was there. I laid in that hospital bed alone and cried for days. The entire experience was very traumatic. I made the decision to contacted a woman I knew and although hard to ask for help I told her my situation. She came and picked me up from the hospital when I was released and took me to her home. I helped her with her children and she worked. I cooked, cleaned and took care of everything else. I stayed here for several month. I had the baby and the baby and I came home to this house. After my son was born my emotions were crazy and I missed Jack. So I contacted him. I have been with Jack again every since that day. Jack now is so abusive and I’m afraid. Jack hits me now, he calls me fat and ugly. If he wants sex, if I don’t give it to him he will torment me and leave me here alone and harass me. If I don’t treat him respectfully and take care of his WhatS and needs he threatens to sleep with my friends, or days he already has. If he leaves and I lock him out he will break in (mind you I had a job so we are living IN MY HOME) he contributes nothing here. He will break into my house and make his way in. I just woke up last night in bed next to him with his hand up my shirt snd had no idea he had even come over. I was sound asleep and he forced entry through my back door. The door latch is still broken. Along with the window on my front door from the mart time he did this. I threaten to call the police and have really considered it. I wasn’t to more than anything, but Jack guarantees me he will kill me then himself before they can ever even arrive. He threatens to call CpS and have my child taken from me. He says I never know what meal he may or may not have put drugs in so if he calls them he will have me drug tested. It’s not worth the risk. I feel like he’s lying and wouldn’t really put drugs I. My food, but what if?? My son is my life and my world I don’t want to lose him. Cps scares me. Jack scares me. Jack will hurt me if I call the police. He WILL ruin my life if I don’t do as he says, like he says. The abuse now is the worst it’s ever been. As I sit here tonight with a knot on my head and a bruised eyelid, crying and brainstorming life I do every night. I need a plan, I need to get out of here. I need help. I need help now. No more games! There is a child involved that I refuse to allow to grow up around this man. My som has never seen Jack hit me but if I don’t get out of here I know one day he will witness this abuse. What if the abuse is turned on him? So without a single doubt, (mommy mode is in full effect) I have decided I wasn’t to move. I want to change my phone number. Once I have somewhere safe and the any and I get settled in, I will then call the police and tell them everything. I have text and voice messages to prove anything I need to to the police. I WILL file a restraining and/or protective order. I WILL testify in court against him. I WILL have him arrested without mercy. I WILL NOT feel guilty!! I am an amazing mother! I just need to get out of here long enough for the police to do their thing.
Mehta I’m asking for is enough money to get out of town. Maybe get a hotel room. Preferably something nice. I don’t want to take my so to the south side of anywhere and feel afraid in an already stressful a bed scary situation. I would like to get a nice hotel, maybe even a spa and RELAX! Enjoy my baby boy while the police are back at my home hopefully kicking in my door to arrest Jack. He’s on probation and had a warrant so my report WILL have him locked up in jail! I need gas to get out of town and some money to have in my pocket. I think everyone should always have a few bucks in their pocket in case of emergency. I will not have access to a kitchen in a hotel so money for a few days worth of buying us hot meals at the local diners near the hotel. I’d like to get a cell phone tuned back on. Jack shattered my iPhone 8 because he thought I was texting someone when I was playing on it one day. I am going to need to buy diapers and some clothes for a couple days. I cannot pack bags because Jack will know somethings up. I am truly in fear he will kill me if he knew I was leaving him to have him arrested. So all I can grab is my purse and say I’m running around the block to the dollar store for some snacks or something. This is a normal thing I do often so it won’t raise any red flags. Except when I leave I won’t be going to the dollar store and I won’t be coming back until a few days after I know he is in jail.
I know whoever is reading this is probably thinking , yeah right now do I know she isn’t going to take the money and run right back to him. All I can do is ask you to trust me. The moment I get to where I’m going and the police I will get a police report. I will gladly scan and email you this report as well as give you our real names so that you may call and check the jail yourself. I need someone to believe in me! Someone to help. Please trust me. I’m a good person and I don’t screw people over. If you’d like any proof or confirm that I’ve done with Jack what I’ve promised to do here I’ll gladly give you any info I can. If you’re willing to donate without proof then that’s great too. Please just let me know if there is anything I can do to help you feel more comfortable about his donation. I also plan to reach out to my sons biological family. I have contacted his father who isn’t interested in having a child but I plan to reach out to his grandparents in hopes to let my son know his family. I am trying to do the right thing here. As soon as I know we are safe our lives will finally be able to be normal. My son deserves to know who he is and where he comes from snd I’ll be damned if I allow this man to force me to continue to live this way and in fear!

2 Huskies and a Girl Found Frozen

Where do I begin?

December 28, 2019, my mum passed away. She was my best friend, my hero. Her health declined so quickly, and just like that, she was gone. Not more than 2 weeks later, I turned 35 and got a broken nose for a birthday present. My boyfriend at the time, had horrible trust issues and couldnt believe me that I wasnt seeing anyone else, so he hit me to prove he knew I was lying, to prove his control. Yeah whatever. That was his last mistake.

2 months later, I’m in the process of trying to save money to move out of his place to get away from him and then I lose my job, due to covid, and now I’m stuck. I was lucky to get unemployment, but that was not something that arrived very quickly. It took me a little longer to save up money without him knowing to leave. May 5 was the day. The day I decided I was getting away from this unstable human. I waited for him to leave packed the minimal amount of things I needed to survive, put my two huskies in my 2001 VW Beetle and when I ran back in to make sure I had everything he showed up. Drama was the result as well as 4 slashed tires. Like I had the money for that. OMG

Fixed my tires, wasnt deterred at all and continued with my escape LOL I got myself a weekly and paid for that until about August and then….it just got too expensive. Not to mention, it didnt take long for my ex to find me a d even with a TPO he continued to harass me, to vandalize my car and spread horrible rumors about me. But he wanted me back and would do anything….yeah! No way man!

September a friend of mine agreed to let me and my huskies stay with her for a while. Such a huge relief. It was nice to have normal days. No tempers. No fighting. No destruction. He had no idea where I was. I dont think j mentioned this, but my ex knows everyone in this town, so it wasnt hard or he has tracking devices on me, to find me. He not only was harassing me, he started breaking into my friends place, frightening her to the point that after the 3rd time of calling the police, she was over it and I was out.

I have no family here. I was here for my mum. My dad was never really apart of my life and cannot really reach out. So where do I go? I was homeless and he was ruining my life.

He still is ruiningg my life. Since september, he has broke my back window and hit my front windshield with a hammer twice. It’s about to break. He has slashed my tires and additional 2 more times, but fixed it once for me, such a swell guy!!!! He broke my passenger mirror off, ran over the back of the car and even tried to run me over with his truck. He’s crazy and wont leave me alone, no matter how many times he goes to jail for violating the TPO. Its craziness. I cannot drive anywhere now because of the last slashing and I’m broke AF.

So, to say the least it has been a bitter cold winter. Now jump to January of this year. My birthday, always a great day, my unemployment benefits became victim of fraudulent activity. Someone decided to withdrawal every penny and some. And get this….BANK OF AMERICA ALLOWED THE OVERDRAW. Such bullcrap. So I call to report the fraud and they lock down my account I have. Unbeknownst to me, that caused a whole heap of problems and I needed to talked to the state unemployment office to find out what was going on. IT TOOK ME 3 WEEKS BEFORE I EVEN GOT A LIVE HUMAN ON THE PHONE. 3 WEEKS!!!!!!! That was calling everyday starting at 8am and listening to a busy tone, or getting hung up on for no reason kr just dropping the call for who knows? Then they tell me what needs to be done and then I have to wait. I cannot have access to my money until they verify I’m me. Cool! Thanks for the security, but it’s been 8 weeks now. I have not been paid in 8 weeks. I dont have a savings. I dont have family or friends I can ask. The humans I do know have already helped as much as they can and I dont know what to do. I cannot find a job without being able to get to interviews or even make calls on my cell phone or use the internet. Everything costs money. Money I just keep promising to people when I really need to buy food and tires and dog food and a back window a d a front windshield with the money when I get it. All these Bill’s keep piling up with fee after fee and I dont even know how to make it stop. I understand they can only wait for so long, but I too cannot wait forever. My huskies and I are freezing without heat, starving without food, and scared we aren’t going to make it. This winter isnt forgiving and I dont know how much longer I can persevere. My hustle is exhausted. I’m drained, cold, tired and just exhausted. Mentally and physically. Shelters wont let me in with the huskies. I cant get anywhere with two dogs and a broke down car. We need a roof over our heads and a car that we can rely on. I need to get out of this town and someone out there is my hope. I know it.

Life after domestic abuse

To whom it may concern or to whom may be able to help,

I absolutely hate to ask for money, but I have exhausted all of my other options and I am at the point of giving up but I have to keep going for my beautiful little granddaughter.

Amara is almost three years old and her mother, my daughter in law, was violently beaten by her boyfriend after she was caught trying to leave him. My son was killed in a tragic car accident almost two years ago and my daughter in law, in a downward spiral, became involved in a bad relationship that she recently was finally able to break free from, but not without cost. She was violently beaten and everything she owned for herself and her daughter were left behind so essentially, she is starting all over. She has 4 broken ribs, a cracked collarbone, a broken arm and wrist along with numerous bruises and will be healing for awhile. While she is unable to work or move well yet, i also need to pay for daycare to watch my granddaughter most days as my daughter in law is still on pain meds.
I am working 7 days a week trying to make ends meet and take care of them both along with myself but 16/hr does not go very far with all that. She also has hospital bills that I am trying to take care of while she heals. I am working every hour I can get along with donating plasma and a flexible hour job with a delivery service, but I just seem to be getting nowhere trying to replace things they lost such as car seat and clothes, etc. I am slowly dying inside myself because frankly I am so overwhelmed trying to help and keep them out of a bad situation again and I am so tired from crying and losing sleep worrying.
Again, I hate to ask for any kind of help and I would not be if it were not a desperate situation where I am losing ground and my sanity. Please help if you are able to be able to ease even just a little bit of this financial burden while my daughter in law is trying to heal herself for her and her daughter…..

A New Beginning.

Hello,I will try to be as brief as possible and get straight to the point. July 26, 2020, my 39 year old daughter suddenly passed away and I now am raising my 8 year old grandson. I moved in an apartment very close to her apartment she lived at for four years. But when she passed away the time here was about 6 1/2 years. My grandson has had many emotional problems and because I still reside at this address it has been very difficult. We can move very soon except I owe a bill that I shouldn’t have gotten. You see I was very sick at that time the problem occured. I was accused of not reporting information to Aurora Housing Authority. I did report the information immediately. I made copies also but because of my illness I put them away and could not find them. At that time I was very sick I even needed help dressing. Both my daughters moved back home with me to help me until I was well enough to take care of myself. In conclusion, if I don’t pay the bill my grandson and I will be unable to move. The Coalition Of The Homeless will forfeit the rental help by March 15, 2021. My grandson is a good boy, he loves school and loves his 9 month old his puppy his mother bought 2 months before she died. He also is kind to people. He deserves a chance to become whatever he wants to. Please help us move forward to have a new beginning. I thank you for your help.

Helpless

Hello. My name is Nico and I’m 28 years old. My Wife got a psychosis and this changed our whole life.

It all started 6 months ago. She ran away and cleared our Bankaccounts / credit cards faster then I could react. We have a debt of 60000 now.

I never knew where she is because she got crazy in this time. 6 weeks ago she came back home. Not really remembering what happened in this time. Then the next shock. She got pregnant.

After this my wife tried to commit suicide, luckily survived (baby too) and is under medical care now, I can’t talk to her cause she’s mentally away…

I don’t know what to do anymore since the doctors said my wife could need medical care her whole life.

I’m together for more then 12 years with her now. We always wanted a family… And one psychosis destroys everything.

I never did this before, but if there is anyone out there willing to help me in this crisis, I will never forget this.
