Being a single mother especially in today’s era can be extremely overwhelming. If you are one of those mothers who is doing it alone every day you know what I am talking about. It seems like the bills just continue to pile up and never end.

Researchers have said that just in 2015 year ending alone over 80 percent of the households in America that we’re single households we’re in fact ran by a FEMALE head of household which we’re mostly living very poor.

Many people may say well there is government assistance for them to get a grant but it’s hard to find and information regarding that said topic anywhere. So in hopes to help the single mothers out in the world this article will give you some insight on the different assistance topics we can cover including where and how to get a grant or scholarship. Also, you will read and see how simple it is to receive help with income expenses and medical insurance.

Are there really grants for a single mother?

Of course they do but these grants are not only for single mothers. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t help for a mother to receive one. I know its mind boggling that the government hasn’t had any means created for money for a single mother that is actually in the shape of a grant. One thing the government does for a single mother is they assist them through a group or have set sponsors through a company, and sometimes they are covered by the actual income assistance completely.

Below are a few websites that will redirect you to free items that you can get just for registering on the website.

Low Income Assistance for Single Mothers / Government Grants

As I said there is not an official grant for a single mother available that is FEDERAL. However a single mother can go through federal programs and register and sign up for them. Those kinds of programs are usually for households with low income. Which means you would also qualify for Welfare. No matter what the case these are programs to help those who make below the limit and live poorly.

Below are different types of assistance based in the United States.

TANF – TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILIES

TANF is a crucial for many low income families located within the US.

With TANF you receive a small amount of cash every month that you can use toward your food, rent, and other necessities. However you only receive TANF for up to 60 month limit.

If you are a single mother and you have children in your home who are less than 19 years old you are eligible for TANF.

SNAP – SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Food-stamps or SNAP as other people may refer to is financial help for meals. You can receive money every month to place food on the table if you are on low or no income.

For most of Americans living in poverty SNAP is potentially the only assistance they can get.

Research has shown that in 2015 SNAP benefits have helped at least 45 million Americans. Most of the ones who receive the stamps are under are up to the age of 18.

When you go to use your benefits for SNAP you have your own personal debit card to ring your groceries up with at the register. If you are interested in trying to get on with SNAP benefits all you have to do is fill and application out and send it in or take it into a local office that deals with SNAP benefits.

NSLP – NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM

This is a program that gives free (or discounted) food to students whose parent’s income is bellow a poverty level. The income needs to be at least between 130-185 percent bellow the poverty line.

Most the time if a person is a receiver of SNAP benefits their children will be accepted into this program for free lunches. But, that doesn’t mean if you don’t have or receive SNAP that your children are disqualified.

You need to contact your child’s school to apply.

TEFAP – THE EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Food for the American families who are in the poverty range not matter what the age.

If you have received food stamps before or any other program assisting you and helping you such as the ones in this article you could also be approved for this program.

You will need to contact your State distribution agency to learn more about the Emergency food assistance program.

Local Food Banks

A food bank doesn’t exactly fit into the whole “Grant” program area as it is actually a location in your town where you can get food if you are in need.

Do not allow you or your family to go without food. If you ever reach that trouble you can call 211 and ask them where the nearest food bank is based on your location.

More then 200 food banks exist with the feeding america foundation and they supply enough food to feed over 40 million people.

WIC – WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN PROGRAM

This program includes a package deal where you as a mother are able to receive healthy foods, whether you are pregnant or a new mother, and also to children who are 5 or under.

WIC is a program that is temporary and only used for a short amount of time – usually between 6 to 12 months.

EARLY HEAD START / HEAD START

These programs are for children up to 5 years old.

You can receive free child’s medical and dental care along with their schooling, and dietary needs.

Find your closes headstart office on their website or call at 1-866-763-6481.

Insurance for unemployment

This is a special program which will pay you weekly if you are unemployed and it had nothing to do with you for you being fired or let go. You will only be able to receive this benefit for maximum 26 weeks. Different states have different benefit rules. But most states will average out at about 45% of whatever the average weekly income is.

Single mothers who are out of a job temporarily can find solace with these benefits and can help make the burden less for themselves because this pay will restore what you have lost from losing your work.

If you want to try and get this started and opened for you, you will have to find your local unemployment office or apply on the website for this specific program. Most states will allow you to also try to sign up for this over the phone.

Section 8 housing

Section 8 is basically a program that helps a family be able to pay for their housing. If approved you will receive a voucher of up to 70 percent of your bills (utilities and rent). You are expected to pay the other 30 percent.

If you want to apply and feel you qualify you can get in touch with your local office involved with public housing, the HUD office.

CCAP – CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

This is a benefit for families who can’t afford to place their children in daycare while working.

You still have to pay a certain percentage but it isn’t a big lump of money. The less you earn, the less you need to contribute.

EITC – Earned Income Tax Credit

It is a tax benefit for people with low income. You could potentially get as much as $6,000.

If you normally have a tax rate of $1050 but you are allowed $5550 then you get refund of $4500.

There is a Children’s Tax Credit too for as much as $1,000 for EACH child.

LIHEAP – LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

LIHEAP is a program that is a one time help to help pay for heating / cooling expenses.

Most of the time this is for the disabled or families with children or disabled person in the home.

WAP – WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Weatherization assistance program lowers energy bills for families in need. Usually the elderly and families involving children are accepted and put to the top of the list before all.

Your monthly income need to be below 200 percent poverty level.

To apply, find a local WAP center.

Medicaid

Medicaid is help with medical expenses. If you do not have health insurance this gives you certain benefits as long as your income restriction meets the level it should.

A lot of single mothers may meet the standards to be recipients of Medicaid even if you are unemployed.

Every state has different rules about Medicaid plans. You can find out exact requirements on this website.

Together with ObamaCare it ensures that even single mothers who didn’t receive any health benefits will now be able to have coverage.

CHIP – CHILDREN HEALTH INSURANCE

CHIP gives children without health insurance a chance to have health benefits all the way up until they are nineteen. It is for families whose income is too high to receive Medicaid benefits.

It provides every type of benefit you can think of — dental, eye exams, and even annual doctor’s exams.

Federal Pell Grants

Aid program for students of up to $5,815 for those in need to be able to set foot into college.

This is the best opportunity for a mother who is single to finally be able to finish her schooling and finally continue in the workforce. The money is completely free of charge with no interest rates or paybacks ever.

You need to fill out an application and submit it for a pell grant and have it turned in on or before June 30th of every year.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant

Similar to the Pell Grant. If you already have had pell grants and you are at the top of the charts in need you will be first on the list to receive this. Depending on a persons needs that are wrapped in with their financial struggle will ultimately decide who will receive anywhere between $100 too $4,000 annually.

Charities

Charities can be a way to seek help for you and your children whether you are in need of food or clothing or even housing. A lot of charities around the world actually have their own food banks that they run and they will give you bags of free food.

If you go to salvation army a lot of the times they will let you sleep there if you have no where else to go especially if it is a result of violence.

Churches

Most churches will offer you food and clothes or maybe even a place to stay if you have been recently kicked out by the one you are living with.

To find information on this you should look through your phone books local listing or yellow page. You can also research online and see what churches are available to your area and call them and ask what services they do offer.

Loans

Single moms can receive loans usually relatively quickly but I would not recommended that at all. You could potentially go into debt and not be able to rise back from that.

Sometimes you have no choice because you have to fix your broken car or maybe pay for utilities and food and need the help right then. But you have to be able to pay that loan realistically quick.

Pay attention to your credit because if you try to get a loan through a bank or anyone they will check your credit score and see if it is even available to be able to place a loan out to you. If it is a loan that is for payday loans or credit card advances they will not run a check but you will end up paying more after fees and costs.

Line of Credit

If your credit is decent some people ask a bank for a loan personally. Most of the time this is a better idea then asking for a payday loan because if you need quick money with lower rates of interest this is it.

Personal Loans

On a personal loan interest is lower dramatically but you have to pay in instalments. It doesn’t really fit criteria for an emergency. Normally if you just tell them you do not have any more funds and that is why you need this they will turn you away. If your credit is poor you will not be able to even touch this offer.

Short term (payday) loans

This is a very popular type of loan. You may know it by the term “Cash advance.” The interest runs really high on these and it is a loan that is only for a small time frame.

This is a loan that would more then likely be considered if a problem arises and you needed to repair your car or had a disastrous dental emergency. You have to know for sure you will be able to give every penny back.

If you do not pay this type of loan back you could be in loads of trouble financially.

Credit card cash advance

Do you own a credit card? If so you will be able to get money from a bank as easy as 1, 2, 3. This is not a method that is highly praised though because as soon as you start taking money out of the bank the interest keeps rising and you also are charged for using and pulling out of the bank a fee. This is potentially the easier options if you do need cash asap but you have to pay it back and make sure you absolutely can.

When it is all said and done grants will not solve your money issues within your home if that is what you expect. To get a grant is definitely not easy it isn’t a walk in the park by any means.

If you are looking to get a more stable source of financially being stable you should probably look in areas around you or find a women shelter until you can get back up on your feet.

If you think you have all the time in the world you can apply for other areas of assistance such as Food stamps, HUD, and etc. They do take a lot of time and effort for someone to get back with you and let you know if you have been accepted and enrolled. Try finding a part time working job as a way to financially start becoming stable again.

The moral of this is you can not expect a grant to fall into your hands without effort and take all your worries away. They are only here too do one thing and that doesn’t usually fix anything with your financial setting.

This is all on you and what you decide, no one else can decide for you.

Hello, I’m trying to move into my own home as a mom. I have to move by May 15th. We’re sharing a bed in a room and it’s difficult. I’ve been doing it for too long. And then I found about this site. Hello, my name is Cassandra and I am a single mom of 4. I am 44 years old and I work as a health care aid in a nursing home, also I am currently working towards becoming an LPN. This has been a dream of mine and it has not been easy. When I went back to school over a decade ago I graduated with honors and was accepted into the RN program where I finished my first year but then as luck would have it I started having seizures and found out I am epileptic. Lost my license until I was 1 whole year seizure free, by the time that was all done and sorted I decided to just go for the 2 year LPN program and so I applied and was accepted immediately and of course as it would go at the end of my first year I had to have emergency gal bladder surgery and then a week later went septic because they left stones inside that created a bile leak and so back for emergency surgery again. I decided to take a break from school and just work. A little back story about my health too is I have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and I mean I am covered head to toe in scaly dry patches that are so itchy I could scratch my skin all off, it’s incredibly painful, and the arthritis on-top of it almost kills me. I thankfully have started a medication that helps it but only for a couple years then I need to stop it and break out completely and then try a new one. You’ve probably seen the commercials for the medications, I am now onto my 5th new one. But I’m pushing on, I was getting by until my husband decided to have his second affair on me and leave me with 4 kids and bills all on my own while he went to live for free with his parents. It’s fine, I got over it and got back to work but I don’t make near enough to keep us comfy, we are scrapping by. With my medical issues, I also get migraines that make me go blind and numb all down one side of my body and makes my brain explode for 2 days straight, I broke my teeth on a trampoline as a teenager so I have a denture that really bothers me, and to top it all off I have some cancer cells return to my cervix last week so I’ll need those to be burnt off again. I am looking for help, no, I am begging for help, for someone to maybe just show up like Ed mcman with a nice check for $50,000 that’s all I need. I don’t need millions, just enough to keep me comfy. I am working as much as I possibly can, I do get some child support, 3 of my children are adults and working or are in college so that helps a little as well. I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers all of which have their own struggles and therefore can’t help me out. I am desperate to go back to school to finish my nursing but I can’t because I have maxed out allowed student loans in Alberta due to leaving because of medical. To be honest, this feels a bit odd to come to strangers online and asking for money. However, I’ve seen weirder things happen. I’m a single mom really struggling right now. Two years ago, my life changed in a way I never could have imagined.

After a painful divorce from someone who was deeply emotionally insensitive, my world was turned upside down. The end of my marriage didn’t just happen quietly behind closed doors — it came with humiliation and heartbreak that left me questioning my worth and my future. For a long time, I carried the weight of that moment and the feeling that the life I had built had been ripped away from me.

But I had two reasons I could not stay down: my children.

Since that day, I have worked incredible hours just to keep us afloat. For the past two years I have pushed myself to the limit, doing everything I can to make sure my kids are safe, cared for, and stable. I live paycheck to paycheck, constantly trying to stretch every dollar to cover rent, food, and basic needs. There have been days when the stress has been so overwhelming that I’ve survived on little more than crackers just to make sure my children had enough.

This isn’t the life I imagined for us. And deep down, I know it isn’t the life we’re meant to live.

For ten years during my marriage, a huge part of who I was slowly disappeared — my creativity. The part of me that dreamed, performed, created, and believed in possibilities was pushed aside. But over these last two years, something inside me has been waking back up.

I want to show my children something powerful: that even after being broken down, you can rise again.

I want them to see resilience in action. I want them to see their mother build something from nothing. I want them to know they are worthy of love, abundance, freedom, and the chance to use the gifts God gave them.

My dream is to rebuild my life through creativity and entrepreneurship.

I want to return to theater — something that once brought so much joy and purpose into my life. And I want to launch several online businesses that I have spent countless hours researching and planning. These businesses would allow me to support my family while also creating a life built on independence, creativity, and faith.

But right now, the constant pressure of survival makes it almost impossible to take the first real step.

Single mother seeking help to catch up bills

My name is JaMaria, I am a divorced single mom of 5. I am here today putting my pride aside to ask for help. I am struggling bad, and I feel as if im drowning and just in need of help. They say when it rains, it pours, and thats literally what i have been going through. I fell ill with pneumonia and the flu and had to be hospitalized for almost 2wks with 0 PTO hours to use, and that started my downpour season.

 

Ever since my stint in the hospital, I have gotten behind on bills and it has been one thing after the other. I came back home to no hot water, due to the water heater malfunctioning. My car decided everything wanted to breakdown all right behind eachother. My brakes were vibrating and I had to get those and the rotors replaced. Right after paying for that, my spark plug went out. With this car being the only transportation for my kids and I, I had no choice but to get it fixed. I tried to be cost efficient and found a pick and pull that had plugs for a reasonable price and found a mechanic that agreed to install it for a great price, and he did, but it only lasted about a month and a half and that one went out too, so I had to repurchase another one and pay the guy all over again to do the newer one. The motor went out in my outside AC unit, and we spent the entire summer burning up and the winter with space heaters on max, and now its getting warm again. The light bill has been steadily skyrocketing and is now over $300, even though I made sure to shut off the breaker switch after the AC went out, but they want to charge to have someone come look at what’s causing it and im overwhelmed. Food has gotten ridiculously high and I dont qualify for food assistance because I make $10 more than the threshold allows, and where I used to be able to fill up the fridge and deep freezer for $200, I now barely have enough to get through the week feeding a house size of 6 for the same amount. I have gotten behind on several things, and I just need help catching back up. I was able to manage and maintain the bills before I got sick, but once I missed those days unpaid, it unleashed a domino effect on my life and everything started down spiraling. Anything helps, I just truly need a chance to get caught back up so I can breathe again, and im willing to do whatever I can.

Starting over

My story begins over a year ago. I was in a toxic relationship with my daughter’s father. I had just lost my mom to her battle with cancer. We lost her home—my home—so we moved in with my child’s grandmother. My ex was heavily into drugs and overdosed weekly. I felt trapped. He and his mother left me at the house for weeks on end with no clean, drinkable water or way to store food. DSS stepped in and tried to take my daughter. I was so lost and didn’t know what to do.

 

Thankfully, my aunt let me stay in a camper in her backyard, and I’ve been trying to gather funds to buy a car and get my license back so I can get a job to take care of my daughter and myself. I have three older boys, and in ten years I’ve paid over 33 thousand dollars in child support. I still owe 14 thousand, and now I’ve lost my license completely and need to start over, but child support has me suspended. One simple choice changed my life forever—falling in love with my ex, who for ten years made me feel hopeless and helpless. His physical and mental abuse was extreme. I waited for him to see how much I loved him. Saving someone’s life repeatedly was incredibly difficult.

 

Anyway, I proved to the courts that I am a fit mother; I just needed some help and a break away from the child’s father to start anew. It’s been a year and a half, and he hasn’t helped me with anything regarding my daughter. He harasses me and blames me for taking my child to a new, safe, stable lifestyle. We have both become much stronger. My ex left me for my 20-year-old stepsister, who is full of drama and insecurities. Neither of them has made my life any easier. I left everything I had behind when I got away from him—not for lack of trying to recover our belongings, but they absolutely refused to give me anything. Memories and important paperwork—40 years gone in a blink. I need help and I have no one I can turn to.

Hello, i don’t even know where to start. I have never asked anyone in my life for help before especially when it comes to money. I am usually to the people come to when they need help. Unfortunately that has changed last year. I moved to a new city with hopes of a better life with my boyfriend. Leaving my daughter with my dad and stepmother so she can finish school and attend university in the fall.

Everything has changed since then. My new job has proven not to be what they told me. When I started the pay was ok, they said to give it time and it will get better. You will make anywhere between 50,000 to 90,000 a year. It hasn’t in fact it’s gotten a lot worse last week my check for two weeks was 849.00. I am not making enough to pay rent or our bills and of course buying food. I am working around work with broken shoes with holes in them praying a customer doesn’t see because I can’t afford new ones.

I had amazing credit , I was never late on anything. when I moved that was the next thing that changed. now my credit score has dropped really low. I have maxed out all my credit cards which total about 26,000 and even had to take a small loan just to get through last month of 5000.

I wish it was just as simple as going bankrupt but you see that’s where my next problem comes in.

In December of 2025 my grandma passed away. That was hard all on its own. The house my father lives in was in her name and he still owes money on it. My father is only getting old age right now due to a stroke he had in 2020. So I have been helping him financially as well since may of last year when my stepmother left him out of the blue after 25 years. He now has no one that can help him either.

he is looking for employment that he will be able to maintain at his age with his health issues but has had been unsuccessful so far.
He has been talking to a lawyer to see what needs to be done to put the house in his name and that where I am needed. And where I need help from anyone who can help me financially. If I can get my credit card and loans down that would bring my credit score back up to where I can co-sign and my dad won’t lose his house.

The other issue is that the lawyer said I have to be at my job for one year to co-sign for the house which is coming up soon. I have been looking for a second job but no luck yet.
once my fathers house is in his name with me as a co-signer my plan is to moved back to where I am from and live with him and my daughter.

I know some people are going to ask what happened to my boyfriend and why isn’t he helping. Truth is once we signed the lease and moved in things changed. It went from us splitting on everything to him only giving me 500.00 towards rent which is 1950.00 a month. All other bills are in my name so he never paid a dime for them either. Which is how I racked up my credit cards. I was completely being used by him.

I am sorry for rambling and I hope I didn’t waste your time reading all of this. I really would appreciate any help anyone can give. I am not asking to have all my debt paid just any help anyone can give would be truly incredible.

Humbly asking for help for young daughter and self to begin putting back the pieces after loss

I never imagined I would be writing something like this.
My 10-year-old daughter and I are learning how to live without her dad after losing him to cancer. Some days we’re strong. Some days we’re just trying to breathe through it.
Grief changes everything.
And suddenly the small things — rides to school, getting to work, simple daily routines — feel so much heavier.
Our only vehicle has broken down, and right now I don’t have the funds to repair it. Without it, I can’t get my daughter to school consistently or accept the jobs I’m applying for. It feels like we’re stuck when all we want to do is move forward.
As a mom, not being able to provide something as basic as transportation breaks my heart. I want her to feel safe, stable, and taken care of. I want to work. I want to rebuild. I want her to see that even after loss, life keeps going.
I’m humbly asking for help to fix our car so we can start putting the pieces back together.

Luckiest Single Momma of 6, survivor of DV & has several mental health diagnoses

Hi, I’m not gonna sugarcoat anything because that’s a form of Lying. The truth may hurt, but lies destroy.

I have six kids. I have a 15 year-old and a five year-old girl then I have a nine-year-old autistic with ADHD boy another three-year-old that’s autistic and up until two weeks ago was non-verbal but I’ve worked with him so much. He’s starting to found out his letters being able to Almost  read. He knows his entire alphabet can count the 30 by himself he will rearrange letters to make the alphabet And the best thing is he sings. I have a two year-old boy and a one year-old boy as well. My two year-old has a Hole in his heart. It was supposed to close by the time was a year old, but I was never able to go back and have it checked Because his father beat me the Night before and morning of the appointment at John’s Hopkins and We rescheduled it twice, but I was at the mercy of him because I needed a ride. Now my 4 youngest children do not know anything other than a basement or one bedroom efficiency apartment. Because at some point, the man I loved and respected deemed me not worthy to pay my bills because I stopped doing dishes (I was going through post-partum times 2 at this point.) and instead of being there for me or pick up my slack, he left. He started making friends and hanging out with them, spending the night. It was mostly men at first then it became women and weekends he would leave. I had no money and no assistance because I lived under the same roof as him, I was denied everything except WIC but that still only gives you so much. My kids will never suffer because of another human being unless it is their own choice to do so but absolutely not because of a choice I made. I had to start stealing formula and food. Basic human nessesities like feminine products for me and my daughter and deodorant for myself and my two oldest because man those little ones going through puberty are some little ripe ones!! And soap or body wash . That’s doesn’t include shampoo and conditioner. I’ve cut my hair and had to cut my boys but before all this, they had long hair. My daughters have never cut their hair and it’s a lot but beautiful. Anyways. It’s been 3 years actually the first time he put his hands on me is 3 years on my birthday, a few days before Valentine’s Day. My birthday is in a week. He beat me so bad my aunt didn’t even recognize me. I lives in a very small town with only 1 traffic light. They had no resources so I had to stay. I’ve been dealing for so long, that’s normal to me. Disrespect is normal to me, expected even. Kindness is so foreign to not only me but to my kids also that my daughter had gotten a ride with my sister and her new bf and had no idea how to react when he held the doors open for her and ladies first type thing. So it occurred to me that I am part of the reason she doesn’t love and respect herself. People will only treat you how you allow them to. So as soon as I was able to, I got away. It took me 2.5 yrs but after jumping through hoops I got enough go assistance that paid 1/2 a month at a hotel for me and the kids, even though I was over the occupancy limit by the Fire marshal, I didn’t care. I bartered and begged for the other 1/2 month of room fees. I Had exhausted every single avenue That I knew of. I was at the hotel for two months and then CASA finally had enough feds for my size family, which was a family of seven and the limit there was four. When I was pregnant with my youngest, I had my OB/GYN call and have it approved for me to go and take all my kids so they had to honor that. While, I was there someone had reported me to cps. If you saw me a few months ago you probably would do because have you ever seen someone have to sit on her kids to keep them from getting hit by a car?? You haven’t met me then. Cause it’s not possible to hold 2 little hands and an infant with no carrier’s or leashes. I have everything I need now to safely leave my house and no one get sat on or hurt. When the caseworker had come meet me , I knew her.  I was on MAT when I gave birth to my last 4 kids and it’s mandatory cps get notified of any baby born with a positive test prescribed or not. So when she saw me, she said I looked great which I didn’t think so but I wasn’t bruised like the last time I saw her. I immediately asked for family preservation meaning they had to do everything they possibly could to keep me and my kids together but I didn’t need that level of services so I got referred to another community resource, it’s a grant based program because I’m an addict and I have a mental health diagnosis. I’m bipolar depression, anxiety, postpartum, and PTSD and I’m un medicated and I have been for the past three years. Every day gets easier but the one thing that gets harder every day is finances I need a vehicle and I need a washer and dryer if I don’t do a load a day I get backed up to where I cannot get caught up and I just wanna give my kids happy home a safe home that is built for them. My three year-old is beginning to read after being non verbal and me not even hearing Momma until last week.
wait let me back up. I was at CASA for 1 month then they paid 1 month at a local hotel for me and my kids and the day before I had to leave, I moved into a 3br house for the homeless. Although I did not meet the requirements of being homeless for an entire year, I was considered a woman fleeing immediate danger and was moved to the top of the list and was able to move just in time. It has an attic and basement. But if a home made that much of a difference in my 3 year olds progress, imagine what I could do with all 3 babies. They say you learn the most before age 5 and that’s my job right there. My 1 year old says thank you and he says his brothers/sisters names. My 2 yr old can say all his abcs and count to 10 by himself, singing alone, he knows some shapes and all his colors. My 3 year old I heard him say hexagon & octagon yesterday. I gotta be doing something right, right? My older 2 didn’t know as much as my 2 yr old knows by the time they went to pre-k. I’m proud and I’m the mom who desperately needs a break but can’t stop talking about them as soon as I walk out the door or end up just taking them with me. I love my children and I am trying to do my best but it’s hard getting a job with this many littles not in school, I’m not the head start waitlist but things take time. If we go anywhere together, if I don’t have a sitter and have an appointment, we need 2 vehicles because the local community outreach program doesn’t have a minivan, a vehicle with 3 row seating or a transit van. I’m not picky, I will drive a trash can on wheels if I can fit these kids, I wouldn’t have to work around the availability of several people. I could make my eye appointment and go instead of always putting the kids appointments before my own. I could go get my dentures fit so I don’t look so crazy with no teeth. One of those things I wish I knew then what I know now…

I try every day to do 1% better than yesterday. Everyday do 1 more thing I think the person I wanna be would do. I strive for progress not perfection. And as long as my girls don’t allow it and my boys don’t do it or allow it, as long as they are better than me, I think I’m winning at this thing we call life, you know the parent addition with no rules. At least mine were missing. Idk. I didn’t think I’d get this far because I am an addict, who is unmedicated and only on the sublocade shot and bc I never have a ride I’ll go 2-3 months without the shot, weining myself completely off maintenance. I have not used street drugs/iv since 2014.. I survived birth in 2016 the suicide of my brother-in-law, the death of my father in 2018, and a birth in 2020, 2022, 2023 & 2024 and postpartum depression that got worse each baby. I didn’t leave the hospital for 2 weeks for my last baby and I received ZERO narcotics by choice… if you don’t know what sublocade is, educate yourself. I’d literally give an arm and leg to wake up and not feel normal. Some days I can’t even get outta bed but that’s not really an option because I am needed. I gotta put my oxygen mask on before I can help the person mext to me with theirs. Lord knows I’m trying with my whole heart!!!
I could get an older used minivan for 6000, it wouldn’t last as long as a newer vehicle but you heard I’m not picky, right? And a washer/dryer set is no more than 300 used. (a dishwasher is my dream roommate if you know one in need of a home). And any and all food is welcome. I have a new way of life, I will not turn down any help no matter how small. I am leading by example to make tomorrow better.

currently I have no income because I have received the maximum amount from tca, while I wait on disability. I do get food stamps but kids eat a ton. You can reach me through those tags and I am ok with gift cards or second hand items. You need a village to raise 1 child and I don’t even have a dwelling. I forgot to mention I have absolutely no family and my kids family don’t consider them family because I called the police on their father and because I left.

although I have been dealt a bad hand from like time and time again, I am lucky and blessed. We each woke up this morning and we are together. I’m cool with all the other undesirable things because some didnt even wake up. Some weren’t even given another day or chance. I will always be grateful and I will forever be humble in everyday life. A Struggling Mom

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I feel a great deal of shame asking for help on the internet like this. I work hard and would rather take care of everything myself, but have been struggling to keep my head above water.

My daughter’s dad and I got into an argument and he became extremely irate, verbally abusive, and violent. He threw a table and shattered glass, all with our daughter in the other room. Fearing for our safety, I immediately grabbed her and left and have not seen or spoken to him since. He has not paid any child support since then either.

I have really been struggling taking on all the childcare expenses on my own and keep up with all the household/living expenses. My job used to be remote, but now I am in the office and have to drive two hours a day between work and school. I’ve doubled my gas usage and I also have to pay for aftercare for my daughter now.

I work full time and have been trying to find something I can do part time on the weekends as well, but cannot pay for more childcare. The help that I can receive from relatives and my parents is very limited as they are all elderly.

I have officially filed for child support, as we only had an agreement between us. My daughter’s father has not been cooperating, so the courts are still in the process of retrieving his financial information and then proceeding to garnish his wages. I’m unsure how much longer this will take as this has been going on for 5 months now.

Please if anyone can help in anyway, I would be so very grateful. It’s been difficult keeping food stocked up as my daughter is young and growing and eating a lot. I am also behind on my car payments and I don’t have enough to make rent this month. I just want my daughter and I to be ok and anything you can give will help me keep the roof over our heads, our car, and help me catch up while waiting for the child support to be finalized. One Car Accident Away From Stability — Help a Family Stay Housed

I am a single parent asking for help after a no-fault car accident destroyed my only vehicle just days after I purchased it. I rely on my car to work, and without it, I cannot earn income.

 

Last summer, my child and I experienced housing instability and periods of homelessness. While I worked hard to keep life as normal as possible for him, the instability took a toll on his mental health and led to struggles at school. Since then, with structure, support, and incredible effort on his part, he has made meaningful progress emotionally and academically. Securing stable housing was essential to protecting that progress. In January, after carefully scraping together the resources to purchase a vehicle so I could return to work, I was involved in an accident caused by a loose cow on a rural highway—only three days after buying the car. The vehicle was totaled. Because it was so newly purchased, I am now financially upside down, owing money on a car I no longer have.

 

Although I was not at fault, insurance has not provided timely or adequate help, and the party responsible for the livestock has not resolved the claim. As a result, I am left without transportation and without income at a critical time.

 

I work as a courier, and reliable transportation is not optional—it is required to earn a living. Without a car, I cannot work, and even a short disruption puts rent and housing stability at risk .My goal is $5,000 to help purchase a modest, reliable used vehicle and cover basic registration and immediate repairs so I can return to work right away. This would restore my income, allow me to stay current on rent, and prevent another housing crisis for my family.

 

This request is not for anything extra—only the ability to work, pay rent, and maintain stability for my child after an already difficult year.

I am a single mother of three, doing everything in my power to give my children a safe and stable place to call home.
