My name is Stanley Miles, and I am looking to raise funds to repair our earthquake damage home in Jamaica. I very much appreciate you taking a moment of your valuable time to read our story. 

My family and I have been very much depressed by the collapse of a section of our house due to the effects of an earthquake earlier in 2024. 

We were able to save most of our furniture and other items, but extensive damage was done to the walls which eventually collapse and affected parts of the roof, and floor. Damage was also done to the sewage pit at the back of the house. This house was built in the 1940s, and is built mainly of bricks, box and caste concrete. 

Due to our present financial situation, we by ourselves are unable to complete the rebuilding of the house has needed, we have actually start working on the house by digging new foundation, and start buying materials, however, because of the shortage of funds, we are seeking your financial assistance. I have added some pictures to give you further insight about the situation of the house.

Any money donated will be used to purchase additional building materials, such as:

concrete blocks, cement, sand, gravel, board, zinc, nail, wire…  

As well as for additional tradesmen and labor cost.

I have always been a helper. I have put aside my own needs for others. I put my career goals on hold to take care of my mother & my sister was achieving her goals. I helped take care of my brother in law while he was getting treatment for cancer. I would drive 2.5 hrs to spend weekends with my sister & bur myself out. I was doing training in Florida to help further my career & during this time & many trips back & forth herniated my first disc in lower back. Had surgery & surgeon told me “ know wonder you wanted to kill people” the herniation was double herniated & wrapping around & calcifying onto my sciatic nerve! The pain was off the charts. Months later I had people tell me it was good to see me smile again. I then decided to go back to school for skin care & was waiting tables & had a slip & fall, herniated same disc, but work comp was pushing back saying it was complications to previous surgery. It was a different pain,  took 18 months to even get test done to prove herniation was in different spot. Had discectomy done & woke up & left leg completely numb. Wouldnt go away, 6 months later had a fusion & woke up even more pain. I could not tolerate anything touching my skin. Could not wear socks or shoes. Kinda hard in NW Ohio in February. I had to cut tongues out of tennis shoes & wear fur lined crocs. I had to wear a huge back brace all day except while sleeping.
I tried to go back to work as a massage therapist & esthetician & couldnt. Standing on my feet & bending over was too much. I needed to find a different job. Im not good with computers & I am good with kids & saw a nightline on nanny schools. Took a course to become a professional nanny. I met a lady with agency for newborn care & I did that for 13 years traveling the country sleep training babies. But never gained good traction, I struggled.
I love what I do but I dont think this is what Im supposed to do.
In 2021 I suffered a heart attack & had 1 stent put in & 6 months later had 2 more put in. I got a job back in my home state of Ohio & went back. I was there for little over a year. I decided to get a RV to help with work & maybe broaden my horizons getting work. I went  back to NC to visit with one of my favorite families & try to work over summer. No work has come in despite networking & posting on local pages & IG & FB.
I think this career has run its course & am tired of getting rejected. I stumbled into other jobs online. I heard about drug testing, urine specimen collection. You can work as a independent contractor & charge more. Eventually getting into fingerprinting hair dna testing,  but I need to take the final test. Waiting on that. Im also waiting for my final steps to be a medical courier. Again just waiting & its on their time frame.,

I do not go out & party. I am a homebody due to my condition. I really want to work & take care of my bills & pay things off on my own & feel accomplished. But I just need a little help getting back on my feet. I am truly trying & have many things going

I need to exercise extreme caution in the limiting information that may cause parts of this section to be roughly descriptive and with emphasis on total protection of my personal identifying information. I disclose that information to protect and limit all additional harm and damages involved with the continuous fear and awareness for retaliation that has been directed back at my family because of catching the individuals that started all of this.  Our situation involves navigating a complex and infuriating hostile environment where any information revealed or discovered might invite further aggression or disruption from those involved.

Initially, there were small, deceptive attempts to exploit my family’s generosity, which quickly escalated once it began to appear to them that they were comfortable with slowly beginning to stretch the boundaries. These began with minor fabrications but soon involved more serious threats of harm to not only myself but my family. This tactic would then be attempted to be made no longer a focus of their time. The aggressors began to provide false and entirely incorrect information regarding the deaths of their own family members to continue to try and build a stance that their attempts to solicit help for fictitious funeral costs were made up by my family as an attempt to limit their ability to take over a certain percentage of my business and assets, to which they had no  legal or factually backed up paperwork or filings.

This would continue for months and months into a 2-year battle to just want to protect my family and relocate because of this insanity. The next retaliations were initiated by acts of vandalism, including damage to my private property and vehicles. From a continuous attempt to isolate my family and I with slashed tires, fireworks. To now having accounts and information changed to their personal identifying information, with accusations of identity theft being reported as malicious attempts to have support and the ability to try to complete take any ounce of our life to fight the financial blackmail. The situation culminated in direct death threats, that due to the position of who and where I work were able to finally put intense legal and punitive actions these individuals “apparently” decided to slow down their instances of harassment. The destruction and disruption of credit accounts, bank accounts, mortgage, vehicles were confirmed and documented as legitimate evidence of all the destruction that has severely affected my ability to not only regain a footing to even be able to rebuild the damage done to our lives. While at the same time having to weigh the pros and cons of the extreme outcomes this sort of situation can bring to my career and its continued acceptance as part of a city and public servant role.

Frankly and as direct and blunt as I can be regarding the overall situation that transpired and escalated because of this family discovering, attempting, and ultimately forcefully taking information, documents, accounts, and destroying and/or theft and liquidations of assets. Has placed our family in a financial wormhole that I believed could have been solved with increasing my amount of time at all my 2 full time careers as well as a night time position to ensure my family had additional support to keep the bare essentials and supplies necessary to keep navigating this nightmare of pure disbelief and deflation of all that was worked for to get to the point I had gotten our family. A total of almost $89,000 in credit card debt, credit accounts, invoices, and charged and “inaccessible” statements not able to be released from what law enforcement individuals involved described as a shell type “business” that no further information can be found regarding. The $89,000 was able to be reduced by a minor amount down to $82,400, is something we are unsure we will ever be able to make a dent in. With how the threats and distress of the situation when the suspects were still abusing and blackmailing Myself my wife and our respective places of employment and even more for the delay in reporting anything as the threats for harm or worse to my family and friends, did strike a long and hard battle to get any reasonable declaration of attempts to work with companies to settle on anything.   All damage to our home, which I am fearful we will not be able to have evidence or chain of evidence within a timely manner to grant the forgiveness on a credit lien because of this whole thing, damage and vandalism to our vehicles, it is almost a $135,000 nightmare.  A nightmare that I am concerned will never be helped or eased to a point where there is a moment to stop, relax and enjoy the parts of life that I now can’t even fathom will be sacrificed, as I can’t see an end soon that we will be able to recover from this.

Despite this necessary restraint and limitations, I am wishing to keep present at this time to protect my family so that they stay protected, having no unnecessary involvement in potential areas of risk with these people or associated with anymore whatsoever. I want to express how very important it is for me to convey how deeply the choice to share such a life changing and life altering potential reset that your gracious generosity would be to my family and the financial support that could save our whole life and the future that is front of our 3.5-year-old son.  It would affect us in ways that we could ever imagine to be an option when it comes to the ability to bounce back and not have to worry if we will lose everything due to the damage, greed, and horrific intent of disruption those involved caused my family. To make a long story longer. Back here in 2022 I was diagnosed with an auto immune disease and life just went downhill from there. I have always been the go to person of my family only to get sick and have no one. I moved out of town with my 2 sons only yo have to send them back home with there older sister my daughter because I lost my place I was in and out of the hospital and the were basically raising themselves (which was not cool) so it’s been almost a year and I have been working on my health changing my diet and getting better. I live with a family member and they have been really good to me but my son’s really want to come home my daughter started her internship this month she graduates December ik she’s tired and my son’s are so ready to come home and I miss them like crazy. I do work and I send her money every month whenever she asks. But I can’t seem to save enough to get a place. My credit isn’t the best which doesn’t make things any better. Hello this is the story of our journey. I am originally from Oklahoma, my husband was born and raised in Oregon.  We met in 2017, married in 2018 after a whirlwind romance and decided to bite the bullet and move to Oregon in November of 2020. Little did we know that our master plan to find jobs immediately wouldn’t pan out so we ended up homeless till June of 2023. We monitored him all day and by nightfall he started dry heaving and vomiting. I wrapped him in his favorite blanket and put him in his kennel so he’d be safe ND warm. This morning, however, he was worse. I filled a syringe with fluids and have administered them every few hours. He just vomits it back up. I called a veterinarian and they feel it maybe Parvo, I applied for CareCredit and was denied.  We have Little money and my sweet baby needs help. While our need is far greater than the $1500 I am asking for help with today, this will prevent our eviction, losing our home, pay our car insurance set to cancel tonight and register my husbands car that was due in June. I have nowhere else to turn. I have no more ideas as to where I can find help and robbing Peter to pay Paul has been more than exhausted. The overwhelming stress, of just trying to survive, is destroying us, emotionally, mentally and physically.

December 19, 2021 my husband became ill and had to be off work. Despite taking multiple test for Covid, which returned all returned negative, he was admitted to intensive care on January 11, 2022 with a severe case of Covid Pneumonia where he remained until January 16, 2022. In that 1 month our son also got Covid and was home sick. I know I got it but being the person who had to take care of our family in that moment meant I had no option but to do whatever it took to stay standing. My husband was unable to return to work until March 18, 2022. During that time I applied for Short Term Disability and FMLA for him. Sixty percent of his normal income was better than nothing I thought but instead it was the beginning of this nightmare that continues today. First payment of STD didn’t come until February 26, 2022 and it was only for $236! He did not receive any further payment from them until the day after he returned to work. That only happened because I went through hell with his HR dept. and the STD provider and making it part of, what was to become, my new full time job, surviving. Things only got worse upon him returning to work. His employer took his entire paycheck not just once but three times to repay insurance premiums they said he owed. I thought getting sixty percent of his income was bad now we had zero for almost 2 months. This lead to us having to take 401K loans, expensive pay day loans, title loans on our vehicles and pawning countless items that we also are about to lose. I also had to apply for Rental Assistance, Food Stamps, HEAT assistance and all that those processes entail. I also discovered, when going through my husbands paystubs, that his employer had been imputing his income for my portion of the insurance benefit because I was his Domestic Partner and not his legal Spouse. By law I am his legal dependent and they should not have been doing this. This began an entirely new battle that continues to this day in an effort to recover that money along with the money they kept his entire paychecks for, which I found out was also illegal.

It all got a lot worse on October 11, 2022, just 7 months after returning to work from Covid, my husband was badly injured on the job. His had was broke in several places and required immediate surgery. Once again we were living on sixty percent of his income and once again when he returned to work February 26, 2023 they kept his entire paychecks for multiple pay periods leaving us nothing.

Through all this we had to keep refinancing the high interest loans loans we had taken out, took out another 401K loan, made a hardship withdrawal from 401K, lost our Food Stamps because now that he returned to work we were “making to much money” so I began that battle as well which continues today. We also had an increase of our rent of almost $400, had to pay for repossession of my husbands car and were trying to find an attorney for the employment issues who had a free consultation and would work strictly on a contingency fee with no retainer.

Today we are paying out over $600 dollars a month for everything we had to borrow during my husbands illness and injury. We were wrongfully evicted (very long story) and we have been battling the number one eviction attorney in our state for the past year as Pro Se Litigants, all of which is reliant upon me because he is at work. We have been denied any help with our rent both in the previous apartment and with our current lot rent. Why? Because we received rental assistance during Covid! My parents helped us by our mobile home and what have they received for helping us out by carrying the mortgage? One payment in a year. I have applied for the Housing Assistance Fund and been denied twice and currently awaiting my appeals hearing. We are going to be evicted which also means the loss of the home we are buying which will leave us nowhere to go. I am faced with the reality of having to handle another court case on our own for the employment while still battling the previous landlord in court. The application for Food Stamps has issues, again, and without the Food Stamps there will be another fight trying to get HEAT assistance and the state still won’t come to our aid with any assistance for rent. We have also been on the waiting list for HUD Section 8 for over a year now.

We just need to save our home, vehicles and have a mere second to breathe. The cost to pay of everything borrowed during Covid and bring the mortgage current etc is $20,000 and with God’s help we will find a way to make that happen.

Today $1500 will save our home, vehicles and give the chance to fight another day. I can’t begin to tell you what it would mean to us if anyone can see their way clear to help us out with this money. Words would never be enough. We are in need of a miracle and help from people we don’t even know. I turn this over to God now and pray for help.
