Retirement Plan Failing

After being employed for 51 years and never un-employed, I have been laid off.

I started working and paying social Security at the age of 12. I have been employed for all but one month (due to a layoff as well). I am a hard working man with great work ethics, a veteran of the Navy, and a faithful husband. I have worked for fortune 500 companies and managed small hotels and am willing to do just about anything.

I had been looking forward to a very modest retirement but was cut short by a year. Since being laid off in a massive CVS layoff, I have not been idle. Every morning I apply for at least 3 jobs and have over 100 rejection responses.

I am almost 65 and my wife is only a month younger. All the planning is being ruined by the downturn in employment. I have never asked for anything financially in my life and have always done my best to give back and help those that have need. I find it very hard to ask but truthfully I don’t know what else to do. My wife is still working so we are not starving. My retirement plan was based on having my house completely paid off which I am now abut $20000 short of reaching. If I don’t get some help, I am afraid we will soon be forced to sell our house and move to a care home for our retirement. Please help me get a car for work

In June 2023, I met an unexpected setback when the transmission of my 2006 Ford Escape failed. After speaking with a couple of mechanics, I was told that a new transmission could cost at least $6,000 and to purchase a remanufactured one would range from $3,000 to $5,000.

Moreover, my Ford due to its age and condition, was appraised at less than $1,000. For two months, I continued to pay insurance on a car that I couldn’t drive and couldn’t afford to repair. Ultimately, I made the difficult decision to part with my vehicle, selling it for just $500.

Dear compassionate individual,

I am a 33yo female. Born and raised by my single mother, in the south side of Chicago. I play bass guitar. I am an artist. I rescue and rehabilitate reptiles. I love animals, music, gardening, plant medicine and philosophy and I have worked as a professional bartender for 14 years. I would love to learn carpentry, welding and hope to travel the world. I grew up in an unstable and dysfunctional family so, I have spent a good portion of my life alone. A bit of a loner, borderline autistic, creative and passionate nomad. I began working at 15yo and by junior year I dropped out and got my GED. At the age of 26, I moved to Denver, Colorado with my Dogs and less than a couple hundred dollars in cash. By 28yo, I made it to Oceanside, California. I had finally made a home for myself.

Unfortunately, I had a bad snowboarding fall which led to one injury after another. I had a rotated and fractured sacrum and ruptured psoas muscle putting me in a permanent state of “fight or flight” and constant pain. However, I continued working and going on about my life, completely unaware that I was in danger of losing myself.

By 2022, I was put on antidepressants, my absentee father died from intentional overdose, one of my 15yo pups was dying of lymphoma and my roommates and I were being evicted due to covid and hazardous living conditions. for 3 months, I didn’t have a stable home but, I was still working full time, caring for 6 reptiles and one senior dog in my unsustainable state. In February 2023, I was laid off, moved into an abandoned apartment and I was suffering from “failure to thrive”. for 8 months, I would remain there, desolate, desperate, determined to get a grip or find some impossible way to cope. Suddenly, on June 5th 2023, my rotated sacrum  finally released and I have been improving everyday since.

I packed up my dog and reptiles and drove back to Chicago. Currently, I am living in a closet in my mom’s basement. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia due to untreated physical trauma and referred to pain management and orthopedic specialist. however, I cannot receive treatment in Chicago with California state insurance. So after all that, I find myself right back where I started. Back in this place to tried so hard to escape from.

I hope to one day make it back to California and be reunited with my art work and reptile habitats from my storage unit. I’ve always dreamed of buying my mom a house. Maybe live on a farm, start a family, and a little animal sanctuary. I look back on my life and wonder; Were to odds stacked against me from the beginning? Or did I zig when I should have zagged? Regardless, I have gazed into that abyss and surrender but now, I am so grateful for the experiences that have made me who I am and to know that I still have so much more to offer. With this new perspective on life, I am thrilled to see what the future holds for me.

Today, I am receiving state disability benefits which is not enough to cover my monthly bills. I have about $10,000 in credit card debt and I desperately need a place to call home. I am not here necessarily asking for money. I’m looking for opportunities. I would travel anywhere for the right opportunity. A place to call home for me and my old dog. A chance to start again, to heal, to regain my confidence, rejoin society and give back.

Urgent Appeal: Stranded in Colombia, Robbed of All, Seeking a Way Home

Greets to all who have come across my post. I want to thank you for your time in reading this. I am an American citizen who is currently stuck here in Colombia. I was on vacation when I flew to Colombia back on August 31st. I met a girl on a dating app called “Tinder”. We spoke for a few days then we agreed and decided to meet on a Friday for dinner. I met her at the restaurant I wanted to take her to. We ate, talked, took a walk. As we were walking back to go to my AirBNB apartment studio, she mentioned she’d like to get some drinks so we can play music, dance and just enjoy the evening. I purchased us some rum and coke, we headed to my AirBNB, I turned on the TV, connected my laptop and we started playing music, drinking and dancing. After about 40 minutes, I go to the bathroom to get myself freshened up and clean. It must have been during that time when she slipped a powered drug in my drink called “scopolamine” (a.k.a Devil’s Breath). Of course I knew nothing of this at the time. I got out the bathroom where she mentions I hardly drank anything and to drink up. We grab our glasses and lay out on the bed to watch some music videos. That’s the last thing I remember until I woke up from being blacked out for a full 24 hours. Anyway, to get to the heart of the matter, I was completely robbed blind for a total value of about $5000. The things stolen were a high performance gaming laptop, my Google pixel cell phone, my jewelry, some custom made attire and my wallet. I thank the Good Lord that while I was in the bathroom, I had enough wisdom to decide to hide my two IDs and passport. It’s been over 7 weeks since this traumatic incident took place. I’ve heard of people loosing their lives in situations like this. Since I had no access to any of my online services resources or accounts, no cell phone or computer, or ability to get back to work from my vacation, I lost my job and I have been completely living off my savings account the entire time after finally receiving my replacement bank card nearly 4 weeks after. I’m completely out of money with no way to buy a plane ticket back to the States. A most generous local guy who I met when I first arrived to Colombia at a coffee/pastry cafe, offered to allow me to stay with him until I’m able to figure out my way back to the U.S. He himself is poor as this is an impoverished country but he has been sheltering me and offering food and drink this whole time. I have no income, I have no savings, I have no funds on my bank card. I have no residence to reside in as I have been doing AirBNB for 2 years. It came out much cheaper for me than to continue renting an apartment. I’m a single man with no kids, no spouse or family. I have reached out to as many friends I could (embarrassingly) for any sort of monetary assistance. No luck. Many have families who are dealing with their own struggles. All I’m begging money for is the amount I lost of $5000. This would be just enough money for me to fly back to the States. Get a cheaply listed AirBNB stay. Buy a laptop. Get some clothes to go on job interviews. Have money to use LYFT to get to and from and also buy groceries. This would allow me just enough time to start generating income once again after I land a job and get back on my feet. I’m completely wiped out. Please help. I am at a loss

I’m at a loss

On September 14, 2023, in good faith, I brought my 2010 Chevrolet Camaro RS for an oil change at Walmart. Like I have almost every month since I bought the car a year ago. Just one week later, on September 23, 2023, my engine blew up and I had to tow it to a mechanic, the mechanic’s report reflects that this vehicle has a high performance motor, and the wrong oil was put in the vehicle during the oil change, causing it to blow up.) I am now without a vehicle. Prior to this incident, I have had zero issues with my Camaro and it has not been in any shop for any reason other than routine maintenance such as new tires And oil changes. I called the store to speak to management and was placed on hold where I remained for 1 literal hour before I decided to draft an email to Walmart in a attempt to file a claim for damages. After calling multiple times a day for weeks they finally leave me a voicemail about them assuming liability. Now no one will return my phone calls or respond to my emails or anything. I am a single mom and my car is the only transportation I have to get back and forth to work to support my family. I don’t know what else to do but I don’t have the 1000’s of dollars to get my car fixed. $7,612.47 to be precise.  Especially with Christmas coming up and having to pay for my chemo medication. Need another car, home, a new start in life.

Hello my name is Velma, I’m in need of a bigger vehicle for travel and to carry my cleaning supplies for my cleaning business. I have worked hard all my life and I only receive 900.00 a month in SSI and SSA. And it’s not enough. I live with a friend and I’m really not secure he is 80 and if anything happens to him I will be homeless. I help raised 3 grandchildren and now they are making away for their own life. One is in the Navy, and one in college and the youngest is still with me trying to finish school. I have had a hard life my husband was killed in 1999 and I raised 5 kids or rather 3 girls without their father. I lost my house after his death. I worked sometimes 2 jobs to make ends meet and try to keep a roof over their heads. I stayed in motels for long periods of time, other people, family, and in cars and vans. With my children and sometimes grand children. My 2 boys went to the streets after a while drugs had become part of their life. And they went into the federal prison for years. I fell several years ago in 2014 and no longer able to stand for long periods of time. So I no longer work.  My husband was a provider he was a truck driver and he had side business towing vehicles. They tried to rob him and killed him. And my life hasn’t been the same. I have no stability in my life. I need a vehicle because I go and check on my sister’s who are all sickly in Delaware and Georgia and I drive because I have a fear for flying. I flew once in my life and I’m afraid. I want to open my business back up even though I can’t clean but I can hire people to help so I can have income enough to live and make it on my own. I use the person I live with car but when I go and have to stay for days because of emergency it leaves no vehicle at home. So he is stuck. I have no help for real financially because my kids have families of their own and my grandson in the Navy has a daughter. I don’t want to live with anybody depending on people. I left my job early because I had to take care of my mother when she got dementia and she couldn’t deal with people. So I quit and stayed home to take care of her. She later died after loosing her legs in 2012. After my husband died I gave part of my social security to offset the checks I received for my girls. And now I don’t receive all of my benefits.
