Hello. My name is R.D. and I have found myself in a situation that I don’t know how to get out of. Back in March of this year I got Divorced and my ex-wife got my home, my work truck, (it was in her name for insurance purposes), and almost all of my money. I am from Tennessee, but I had a so-called friend here in Alaska that said if I could come up, I could stay with him and his wife till I got on my feet. He said not to worry about anything that he had me a job, winter clothes and a vehicle I could use. So, I took the last of my money and got a bus ticket to Seattle, Washington which took 3 travel days. Then I bought a plane ticket to the airport in Anchorage. I had a total of $20 bucks to my name. As I am sitting on the plane waiting to take off, my friend texted me and said he couldn’t help me out any longer. His wife was a friend of my ex and he hadn’t told her I was coming up until that day and she said I couldn’t stay with them and so he couldn’t help me. I found myself sitting at the airport in Anchorage with no money, place to stay or anyone I knew to call for help. I was totally alone because the only friends I had back home was my wife’s friends and family. Also, on the day I arrived in Alaska, there was over 4 feet of snow on the ground, and it was 14 degrees outside. When I left Tennessee, it was around 75 degrees’, so I only had TN clothes. I spent my first 2 nights at the airport wondering what I was going to do, during which I spent 12 of my 20 bucks on soda’s so I was down to $8 bucks. I left out of the airport into what I considered a blizzard on foot. I spent my first night on the streets and the temp got down to -8 that night. The next day I called around to every homeless shelter and service I could find, and no one could help me, just said they were at max. Turns out there are a lot of homeless in Anchorage. I was desperate and so I placed an ad on Craigslist stating my situation and some people donated me some winter clothes and a guy let me stay in his basement and do day work till I could get a room. About a month later I got a room in a home and do day work to make it. I have been here in Anchorage for 9 months and I am to the point of desperation again. I work and make around $550 a week. I pay child support of $450 a month, rent for a room in a house of $800 a month, plus I have to pay the mortgage on my home where I don’t get to live any longer because I want my kids to have a roof over their heads. It is $600 a month and I pay for my phone and other expenses like my food and for a ride back and forth to work because I can’t afford a vehicle. It is again winter here in Alaska and we have about 3 feet of snow on the ground. I am about to lose my room because the owner is selling the place and rent up here is outrageous. I can’t afford a deposit on a place or a motel so I may be on the street soon. I can’t afford to get my kids anything for Christmas and that kills me. So, I have found myself in a desperate situation again. If anyone could help me get on my feet, I would appreciate any help I could get. Hello, my name is Rhonald, and I am currently in a difficult situation where my life has had drastic and important changes. In a somewhat embarrassing way I approach you to share a little about my story and situation.

A few months ago I lost my job due to a very particular situation and that has left me in a terrible financial situation, where I have had problems updating my work permit, and therefore I have had to work in a very limited way. I am a husband and father of 2 boys, they are very good at school, and I wish the best for them all the time.

I am asking for your help to save my home. My job went away in late 2020 due to reasons related to Covid 19. I was unemployed for six months. When I did find a job, it was for much less money than what I needed, but I couldn’t afford to turn down employment. Because my income was so little, I had to go into a debt settlement program. The debt settlement program has allowed me to pay my creditors and avoid anything going into collection. However, being in a debt settlement program has destroyed my credit making it impossible for me to get a loan. In March of this year, I found a new job which has provided me with a greater income, but I still live paycheck to paycheck.

I live in a condominium community that from time to time imposes assessments on condo owners to pay for needed repairs and upgrades. In the past, the assessments were only a few hundred dollars, but this time it is for $2,900. This is due by December 31. If it isn’t paid by January 15, 2024, a lien will be placed against my property. I do not have the money to pay the assessment. I had briefly managed to raise $1,000, but I then had to put this money toward medical expenses.

As I stated earlier, I cannot get a loan due to my credit situation. I have been turned down by every lender so far. Selling my home would be an absolute last resort. I am not many years away from retirement age. I hate the thought of having to start over this late in life.

I am a custodian at a school, I have 2 adult children, when they were 6 months and 2 yrs there dad walked out, I had no car no job and a baby on a heart monitor, I raked leaves in the sleet at my Apt. Complex to help pay rent, at that point I sunk so low I wanted to die, I walked in the cold barefoot to a church down the road and knocked on the door the preachers wife answered the door and as I was crying I asked her if I could speak to the preacher, she told me no that he was asleep and she wouldn’t wake him, I walked back home and took a bunch of pills, obviously I didn’t die, I’m not going into every detail of my life just trying to let you understand. I have been working relentlessly paying for classes to be a maternal support practitioner (birth educator, doula and post natal care), each program I did brought me closer to my dream of helping women and their families have better experiences and be able to make informed decisions, supporting them after birth and creating an environment where families thrive by working together. But while I was taking those classes I was working two jobs which I felt was typically normal. I went ahead and took fitness and health courses so I could address the issues of trying to keep families healthy during pregnancy and afterwards. I became overwhelmed because of work school out of pocket expenses and the fact that this was very new there was no financial support or really any guidance. The pandemic made it a great time to be a doula but I was working for the hospital two kids at home, my passion fell by the waist side and I worked hard the entire pandemic. Afterwards I hit family hardships that left me in massive debt but I just kept my head down and kept going. My car registration lapsed by a year and then two, I had started using public transportation in hopes to get ahead, then all my certifications needed to be renewed, my vision became bigger for myself so I began to pour into myself. Housing cost went up food gas, then the inevitable my car gets towed for bad tags. I recently got a second job again as a doula for a women’s resource center, I felt like why not make my second job my passion until I can start my business and open a facility, but doing everything alone has brought me to a place of being overwhelmed, my car being towed was the straw that broke the camels back and brought me here. I am a 33 year old husband and father of three. My children are ages eleven, nine and five. I am currently asking for any donations to to assist me in keeping up with my families basic needs.

My wife has had ongoing health issues since about 2018 and has only recently started working. On November 21st she passed out, had to be rushed to the hospital and almost did not make it. She has been in treatment ever since. Honestly, I have been drowning in medical expenses for some time. I pay roughly $700-1000 a month on the low end for healthcare. With that, I am behind on everything including my rent, car payment and utilities.

Before my wife went into the hospital I could get by working two jobs and asking for help where I can. Now I only work my one job and take care of the children the rest of the time. I was asked to return my car last week as I could not make my payments or would have to “face Repossession”. We are now using Lyft and Uber which gets expensive with everyday use. Not to mention some of the other payments I could not make at all.

Hello, we are currently living in a very expensive place on the coast. However we are stuck trying save money to get to a place that is not quite so expensive with more opportunities for work. I am a waitress however with the economy and living in a tourist town on the coast I am barely able to make enough to pay my bills. Our rent goes up every year but there is no where cheaper to live here if you can find a place. The waiting lists for rentals here are up to a year or more. There are three of us in our home. My daughter works full time and helps as much as she can. My husband is disabled and not able to work. He is not able to get social security disability as he was off work to long before they deemed him disabled. Seems ridiculous to me. He worked his whole life for it but I guess it’s the rules. SSI is not an option as they say I make just over the amount and when we were getting it, they kept saying they over paid us. It was a vicious circle. We are trying to move to Idaho where we will be closer to our family and there are more options to work. We have fully checked out the area and housing but have no way to save for the move so we can better our lives. If we can make the move to Idaho we would have better medical for my husband and be able to get some of the surgeries done that he needs. He may also be able to find a job he can do even in his condition there. Where we currently live there are very few jobs. We have been in this town for 6 years and the same home. We are very stable people just looking for some help to get to a bigger town with cheaper rent and more jobs.  My husband has been talking to employers in Idaho to see if there is any one willing to relocate us but we are not even sure he can do this at this time. He needs a knee replacement and  a shoulder  replacement  and also has horrible neuropathy in both feet.
I struggle and stress every day trying to just make the Rent and pay our bills so we don’t get evicted. I am so tired of being stressed in a daily basis. There just are not the jobs here. I worked at one restaurant for 5 years and started at a new one this year trying to better myself. I also worked two jobs trying to pay the bills as well. We don’t over spend or eat out as there is no money for that. I would love to buy for Christmas for the family but even that will not be happening until I can get on my feet. We got stuck in this small town with a job my husband got 6 years ago unfortunately his body got so bad it became to hard to work.
