I am a 64yo man that, at the moment, is in serious financial need. This ask is not something that I take lightly… I struggled with the idea of doing this, but the need drove my final decision to take this step. I am encouraged in this by the fact that, because of my upbringing (parents were ministers), I have helped many people along the way with spiritual direction, companionship, time, food/clothing, shelter, finances, muscle, and much more. So I have a clean conscience that I am not asking for something that I have not spent a lifetime doing for others.

I want to say, from the outset, that I have worked since I was 10yo, and have been diligent about my responsibilities as a husband, father, and citizen throughout the years. For the last 5 years (even thru the pandemic), I have worked as a substitute teacher in public schools in central Ohio.

The reason for this ask is because this past Spring I came down with a severe case of Shingles that covered the right side of my face (nose and upward) and scalp. Lamentably, the Shingles also made its way into my right eye, and caused an abrasion that has subsequently affected my eyesight. This is in addition to the condition of severe hypertension that I have been diagnosed with (9 yrs) and getting treatment (medications) for.

As a result, I was not able to work during the time that I was recovering from this. The Shingles onset was in mid-March, and I was not cleared to work until after the school year was over. I received a lot of physical and financial support from my family and some friends during this difficult time. Furthermore, I was not able to find summer work until vacation was almost ended, so my finances did not get back on track.

In the meantime, between rent, bills, loans, gas/car-related costs, and medication, I am really struggling financially.

I am appealing to your generosity and good will to help me with $3500 to at least get my head above water while I work towards resolving this more permanently. My ex husband abandoned me and my son back in October of last year and we were homeless for a while then we were in an shelter and I was able to get us back in Mississippi where me and my son receive our doctor visits. I am requesting temporary help. I’m a little overwhelmed right now. Asking for help is very hard so any help I receive, I can assure you, i will be eternally grateful.
I lost my husband in 2018 unexpectedly. I was not prepared and although I’ve worked all my life, I’m embarrassed to say this, I was never good at saving because my husband was the breadwinner and managed our finances.i never worried about money or how I would pay for anything, especially food. He was a great husband; worked hard, loved me, saved, invested and passed away leaving me 3 homes, 2 cars, as well as a portfolio of myriad investments.
A Conservator (I won’t mention their name unless asked privately), they stole over 2.3 million. I was left destitute, homeless, and lost everything as if losing him wasnt enough.
I dont tell my story for pity. I still believe I’ve had a blessed ljfe and I’m grateful for so many reasons. I wentback to work as soon as I could. I knew there were others hurting worse than I was so I decided everyday to choose kindness over revenge, happiness over misery and to be content in all things.
In July (2023) my car wouldn’t start when I was going to work one Friday night. I had just paid for a tuneup and was living paycheck to paycheck. I had it towed back to mechanic that tuned it up. They said I needed a “timing chain “, they needed 4k to fix my car. My 2007 Buick Lacrosse was barely worth that much. But I didn’t have any money until next payday and it that was going to bills and rent like every other payday. I lost my job for not having transportation and frankly, got suicidal and just hopeless.

This sudden increase in financial obligations added to my mounting stress and made it nearly impossible to manage my finances effectively. Additionally, I am grappling with an enormous burden of student loan debt, which has become a relentless weight on my shoulders. The ever-increasing interest rates and the sheer magnitude of the debt have made it nearly impossible for me to catch up on other bills and everyday living expenses. A series of challenging life events have put me in very dire need.  It has taken me a bit to get the courage to come on here and request for myself as traditionally I have been the one supporting and helping others.  The urgency and magnitude is such that I had to reach out for help.

In January 2022, I was injured in a car accident and sustained head, neck and back injuries.  I am a musician and I have not yet been able to return to playing for a living due to these injuries and how they have affected my ability to play.  So in addition to being in a lot of pain, my income has been severely affected.

I was not at fault but I have never been injured like this in a car accident before so I did not know that I should have spoken with an injury lawyer before speaking with auto insurance and agreeing to accept their very meager payment on medical costs and loss of income.

So soon the money provided by insurance was gone and I was having to cover medical costs myself and scrambling to survive.  Since I am self employed, I could not get assistance elsewhere.  I had to stop getting medical treatment because I could not afford it.  I still very much need it.  And I have medical bills that still need paid.  I also need critical dental treatment that I have not been able to get.

End of last summer, I was able to get some work doing sales as an independent contractor.  I worked on these for months with the understanding once everything completes, I would be paid out.

Things completed and I did all the work I was asked to do but unfortunately, the people tagged me along for months and months with promises – false promises – that they would pay me next month and then the next month but nothing came.  Then by June of this year, they disappeared without paying me for all the work I did.  Sadly, they took advantage of me for their own gain leaving me with zero for all my efforts for them.

So now things are very serious for me.  I can not cover anything right now.  I do not have an income.  I am really trying but nothing has come through yet. People talk about how difficult it is to go month to month.  Right now, I am going day to day.  Many days will go by and I can not even  get food.

I need help with rent, food, utilities, paying off the past medical expenses and funds for current medical needs and current dental needs plus money to pay accumulated debts – now up to a walloping $80,000 in debt that is hard to even voice .  Additionally, I have a son in college I was giving support to who has been adversely affected by all of this and he also needs an essential eye surgery himself.

good morning. I really don’t know where to start. this is my first time doing anything like this. well here goes. these last 2 year have been though, but I have managed to whether through the last one. this year has been really hard. I have been through a financial hardship that I have been trying to dig myself out of, but I am getting deeper and deeper in debt. I had a job to close its doors on me. so, it left me scrambling to find a job. found a job that but the pay was low, and it put me in a whole. my car was vandalized by the KIA BOYS here in St. Louis. here we have been hit hard with this outbreak. Good day kind folks, Marilyn is my name and I humbly come before you on behalf of both my grandson age 23 and self age 75. I raised Rob and over the yrs we’ve had our share of challenges yet managed from payck to payck  maintaining excellent credit.

I’m aware that circumstances in life are temporary and that we will move onto another phase. Granted we have had our bouts, yet the past 3 months have proven to be quite cruel. Our decline began in early July when we spent our savings ($3500.00) on an older trlr for Rob. We’d been crammed into my small 27′ RV located on property in the woods, and both needed our own space. We soon realized we’d been hood winked, yet managed to make it work. It was early July, our emergency funds were gone, yet I receive a small monthly SSI ck  and Rob had his job unloading semi trlrs, that is until he didn’t! It was the end of July when Rob lost his job due to poor company mgmnt. No worries, he’s a capable, hard working young man! Then came August and my nephew age 54 had finally been released from the Riverside Co. Detention Cntr. where for the past 3 yrs he had sat on trumped up charges. I was over the moon with joy, for a moment anyway. Five days after his release Josh was found unalive in his pu trk. He had taken his own life. There are no words…..3 wks later Josh’s mother, my twin sister who had previously been strong and healthy, was now at Sacred Heart in Eugene, Or. dying of urinary cancer. That can’t be we said, yet it was! She passed away Sept 2. ’23 froim a broken heart and urinary cancer. I thought things couldn’t get worse…..yet after 2 wks of cleaning and clearing out her home, I returned home only to find precious cat Asa whom I’d dearly loved for 6 yrs.  in dire distress. He was rushed to the vet where we learned his lungs were crystallized. I had to let him go leaving me completely devastated to this very day and with a $300 bill.

I share these 3 major concurrent events with you for they took not only a physical & emotional toll, but a financial strain as well on an already depleted budget. Needing to make an 1800 mi round trip to So Ca required new tires $840.00, brakes $450.00 (still need), oil change $150.00, $500.00+ for gas, plus cars insurance renues in Nov. $2500.00. Rob recently was hired by UPS for pt time peak season and plans to start on Mon 8-02. I believe he has a real good chance of being hired full time after January. Unfortunately that doesn’t help us now, therefore, I humbly ask for some temporary financial assistance (first time ever) in the amt of $5000.00. That would get us on track and keep our credit in tact. Honestly, any amt would be greatly appreciated yet I understand there are many in much greater need than we.
