My name is Jim and I’m struggling with the financial burden of recovery from a severe tropical storm that did extensive damage to my property nearly two years ago. I was unsure of which category to post this to.
After battling with my insurance, regrettably without an attorney, I only received about 25% of the actual damage amount. They repeatedly promised to pay for parts of the claim, then when I’d contact them to follow up, they’d tell me that the adjuster who had previously promised to cover certain damages had been reassigned and they could not cover those damages! This happened multiple times!
Ultimately, I had to finance the majority of the repairs on my own and then have almost drained my entire savings trying to make payments on these high interest loans. With my savings all but depleted, I have tried to get various lower interest loans, such as home equity, debt consolidation and personal loans. I have been denied on all attempts due to insufficient income. And now I only have a modest Social Security income. So now I am out of options!
I have already accumulated $110,000 in debt from repairs and those repair have still not been completed. And my insurance is threatening to not renew my policy if I don’t have repairs completed.
I have always prided myself in being able take care of things on my own but now realize that this storm has defeated me! This is very uncomfortable for me to acknowledge this but I need help! I need the $110,000 previously mentioned, within 6 months to be able to keep my head above water, but urgently need about one third of that, $40,000 asap to pay off some of my debt that I got with promotional rates that are about to expire. Those expirations will triple my interest rates and monthly payments!
So can you please help me recover from this natural disaster? Any amount will help and be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
