I’m a veteran with PTSD that has been through hell and back asking you to help me at this very moment get my life back.
I got an Honorable discharge in 2000, but got diagnosed with PTSD in 2021. I was left with my trauma untreated for all those years. I tried taking my own life a few times, but I guess you could say the universe had other plans for me. I could not function in my own head, likewise society. I tried many jobs to take care of my child and myself but I would leave those jobs because I will have a panic attack and become very depressed. I did not know at that time what was wrong with me, but I knew I was not okay. I knew working in those environments was part of the problem so I became self-employed.
I had my Massage business for a while in which I would go to people’s homes, workplaces or small events to provide my service. It was a very stressful but stable income, but I was able to provide a good life for my child and send her to college. There were still times when my symptom had me immobile, but I did not have to worry about being fired from my job. A lot of the time I thought of my child and worked through it.
In 2020 my heart could not take it anymore; and at age 42 I had a heart attack due to stress. I had to have two stents placed in my heart. I was told if I keep going the way I was, I would die. I was told about the VA Medical Programs in which I can get help by a Veteran friend. I didn’t even know such a program existed. I applied and was for VA benefits. I was then diagnosed with PTSD, insomnia, anxiety disorder, depression, and the list goes on. I was put on medication for the first time and had therapy. I feel like a person again. The fog in my head is clear and I know who I am and what I want. For the longest time I only existed, but now I feel like I’m living.
I have been in the job market trying to get remote entry level jobs in which they say they will train, but they will not hire me because I’m not qualified. I even went as far as applying for office entry level jobs in which I know I’m not ready for, but I need to start from somewhere l just need to be given a chance.
I really do not want to be put into a setting that could get me triggered and dismantle all of this progress I’ve made in my life, this is why I am asking you to help me reach my goal of $55,000 to start my small T-Shirt Business. My name is Vanessa and I’ve been living with persistent concussion syndrome from a Traumatic Brain Injury from a car accident in 2019, which means, I still, to this day, have regular brain swelling, energy issues and, what I like to call, word constipation, which means I constantly have to overcome the insecurities of having a foot in the mouth syndrome, as well as, memory loss which can hit mid-sentence.

That said, most people don’t see, or notice this, as it’s an invisible injury. ( I do have brain scans to verify that this is in fact what I live with!)

In the beginning, it was so bad that I had personality shifts that were very scary, to say the least, when you feel like you have become someone you don’t recognize, this is incredibly scary! It comes with the territory. I am mentally stable and quite resilient despite all of these challenges…  I couldn’t remember what someone had  just said, and I had visual issues, cognitive issues, basically every aspect of my life was challenged, and no-one really understood what I was going through, and to make things even worse, many didn’t believe me. This was heart-breaking and extremely terrifying to say the least… to be so incredibly challenged, and lost and with very little support.

There I was, a life coach, hypnotherapist, author, and musician and, I was completely lost at sea… everything I had worked for, creating in my life,  disappeared in a blink of a eye as my ability to function was challenged beyond measure.

I spent all my savings on bills and creating what I had hoped would be my saving grace, an app/online course… because, I thought that if I made videos, I could then edit all my fumbles and challenges and hopefully build something that could work for me if my traumatic brain injury, god-forbid, got worse…

So, I basically arrived at what I thought would be the finish line, hoping to make some kind of return on my investment, but soon found this to only be the finish line of my savings….  and instead of having the proper funding to launch properly, I ended up “failing” because of lack of funding and this was incredibly soul crushing and to boot I learned how many “friends” were thrilled to see all my hard work not pan out….

This was deeply and totally devastating…

Now, here’s the thing… it’s not that I failed…. my dream was to bring high-end coaching to the masses for an affordable monthly fee, but what I learned is that if there isn’t enough skin in the game…. they will not be invested enough to do the work to get the results that they are seeking…

Basically, there I was, still really challenged after hitting the end of my savings and still not feeling confident enough to work with my clients again… I ended up in an Uber and Lyft, which in my book, is not a living wage, just long hours hoping to meet basic needs. But it’s all that I felt I could do after feeling so crushed by things not going as expected.

This, however, did serve a very wonderful purpose, as it helped me get my words back, my confidence back, and my deep love for connecting with my fellow humanity!

The problem, is that it’s a hamster wheel, and once your on it, it’s very difficult to get off. Especially considering that you’re making just enough to barely get by, while also exhausting all the actual and valuable time that is very much needed to course correct.

I have since learned that, there is someone who is very successful, who is doing very much the same as what I have  been doing/creating, (we, of course, have our own unique signatures to our work), but, she’s doing it full-time, with her husband and two employees.

This is wonderful news and it gives me a great sense of relief to know that the systems that I have set are already working elsewhere, I simply just need the funding to get me across the VICTORY finish line!

Although these have been the most challenging years of my entire life, I have to admit, the person that I have become, and what I have learned have been such incredible gifts, that in the long run, will only add to what I can bring to the table to my clients and the rest of the world.

My Goal is 20K, 10k to make the changes to turn the monthly app into a 6 week bootcamp that has an app… and 10k to properly advertise it, of course, more funding would enable me to hire the help I need, so, the more, the merrier.

That said, the long hours and spending every spare moment working on my app/ course has left me stretched beyond measure and even the smallest amount of help could help me get that much more needed me time, and to help with my general health and well-being as I’ve barely had a day off in the last year.

I am trying to get funding to have Rods and Reels not fish. I have applied to get loans from every place i could to try and get funding and I have ben denied at every front. I was a truck driver OTR (Over The Road) for 3 years during the pandemic until i could not bare being away from my family for 3 months at a time any more. I have watched what is happening to my fellow truck drivers with people slamming on the brakes in front of us causing a wreck to collect a check. Which puts us out of a job and the company pays out to keep it from hitting their insurance. 2023 I have went back and earned my GED with college credits, I earned my license for my AZ life and health insurance producers license, all to no avail. What i am trying to do now is a proven tried and true way to help people while also helping yourself financialy.                                                                       My goal is to raise $35,000 to purchase 8 used vehicles that are less than 16 years of age and under 120,000 miles to lease out for people to work for uber and lyft, while driving 1 vehicle myself. I want to make sure to be able to give other people rods and reels but taking 2 to 3 of the vehicles to lease to people that are in the same boat as me at a discounted rate that would be paid once the earn the money to get them on their feet and caught up on their bills. I have the mechanical know how to keep them running for years to come. $300 a week per rental x8 = $2,400 per week x4 = $9,600 a month – 2400 a month for insurance leaves $7,200 a month. We will offer classes that are mandated by the court system to take domestic violence,  drug, and rehab courses.  We will help with grant writing, business proposals, and business planning and offer free job training from professionals in many fields of trade. We will offer low and high-impact Yoga and Tai Chi exercise classes for the elderly and young adults to help keep the elderly mobile. I am a lifelong musician born and raised just north of NYC. I have been entertaining since I was seventeen. I started singing and playing organ and/or piano in churches which eventually led to a few bars locally. I received, to my great surprise, 3 scholarships to music-based universities (FAMU, Berklee U. in Boston, and Juilliard in New York City.) I wanted freedom so I chose FAMU. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree to teach vocal and instrumental music in public schools. After my graduation, I returned to NY and started teaching 7th and 8th graders. After 2 years I was invited to South Dakota to help a fellow musician from Virginia for supposedly five months. I bought a 1956 Caddy that was used as the family car in funeral processions for $100 and packed up my drum set, my trumpet, my Fender guitar, my huge Custom speakers, and my organ with 2 Leslie 145 speakers into the back of the huge Caddy and left for Sioux Falls by myself. But the agency asked me to perform as a soloist. The agency kept me booked back-to-back for 20+ years. I visited Mexico for 2 weeks and got permission to work for one week through a Mexican official. After 15 or so years, of working successfully all over Mexico, I found a steady job entertaining in a fantastic and high ranking hotel in Acapulco where I could live, sleep, and perform. After 2 years, that hotel was sold, and I received an offer to accept a job in one of the best hotels in Cancun before leaving the country which I was planning to do, which also lasted for 2 years under contract. The pay was a lot higher there so I bought an old car thinking I might settle down there. That job at that super hotel started winding down but, before it ended I got invited to Marbella, Spain where I was hired to perform seasonally for 3 years, and then Portugal, and then to France and Amstedam and Switzerland, Thailand and than other places in other countries. I finally landed in Palm Beach, Florida a few years before lockdowns thwarted our plans. This is where I am now and I am healthy and able to commit to much more in these so-called senior years. Out of my 76 years, I have dedicated 55 years of service entertaining with my special talents. My salary used to be quite enough and it could still be if only I can get past some of the recent setbacks like lockdowns, restrictions, and higher prices we’ve all been subjected to. I have other projects waiting on the sidelines that I find overwhelmingly difficult to start with a lack of financial support. My financial status keeps spiraling in the wrong direction but, I won’t be stopped. Replacing and/or fixing equipment that desperately needs repair, servicing, and maintaining an older car, and the need to finish with dental work seems like wishful thinking for the moment. I believe that with some significant donations I can return to the position of being comfortably self-sustaining.
