Hello,
My name is Melissa, and I am reaching out with hope and determination in my heart. Over the past year, my family and I have faced a series of challenges that have tested our resilience but have also strengthened our resolve to overcome adversity. I want to share my story, not to seek a handout, but to find an opportunity that will allow me to care for my family while rebuilding a stable future.
Our household has always been a close-knit group of seven: my husband and I, our two young adult children (one of whom is on the autism spectrum and the other a dedicated 911 operator), a young adult we welcomed into our home nearly five years ago who lacked a supportive family, and my elderly parents. Together, we have always worked hard to support one another, but this year brought challenges that we never could have anticipated.
At the beginning of the year, I became severely ill and was forced to miss time at work. Shortly after recovering and returning to my work-from-home position, we experienced a power outage due to a melted breaker at the pole, which incurred a significant expense to repair. Just a week later, our furnace failed, causing further financial strain and additional missed work. These events, though unavoidable, led to my accumulating too many attendance points, and I was ultimately let go from my job—a decision I fully understood but one that nonetheless left us in a precarious position.
While searching relentlessly for another work-from-home role—critical due to my caregiving responsibilities for my elderly parents—our challenges deepened. On my birthday, April 26th, my father suffered a stroke. After multiple hospital transfers, we received the devastating news: he had stage IVB small cell lung cancer, with numerous masses throughout his lungs. Due to his health and age, treatment was not an option, and he returned home under hospice care.
My father’s illness and passing on November 4th of this year have left an emotional and financial void. My parents, who worked tirelessly their entire lives, had no life insurance. I had moved them in with me in hopes that they could retire and enjoy their remaining years together, but life had other plans. My mother, diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, also requires regular infusions every eight weeks, and her health continues to decline.
Despite these hardships, I remain steadfast in my commitment to providing for my family and ensuring my mother is cared for in her remaining years. I am not seeking charity; I am seeking an opportunity to work from home so I can fulfill my responsibilities while sustaining our family. I have a diverse set of qualifications, including:
- Certified Notary for the State of Indiana
- Marketing Certification
- Knowledge in CNC programming and setup
- Mechanical and technical expertise
- Leadership experience, including six years of service in the Indiana Army National Guard (INARNG), where I achieved the rank of E-5 and completed the Professional Development Leadership Course
I am loyal, dependable, empathetic, and a quick learner. I am confident that my skills and dedication can make a positive impact in the right role.
If you or someone you know could offer guidance, job opportunities, or mentorship, I would deeply appreciate the chance to connect. Sharing this story and spreading the word would also mean the world to me. Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey and for any support or advice you may be able to offer.
With gratitude and hope,
Melissa
