My family and I are going through a very difficult time, and I feel I have no choice but to reach out and ask for help. Life has been challenging ever since my father passed away. His loss left not only an emotional gap in our lives but also a heavy financial burden that my mother has been carrying alone. She works very hard to keep us together, but she is also suffering from depression, which makes everything even more painful. Her monthly salary is only 75,000 LKR, while our family needs around 250,000 LKR each month to survive. Because of this, we have been depending on loans, which only makes our situation worse.
We are a small family, but each of us has big responsibilities. My sister is in university and must pay both her campus fees and her boarding house expenses. She works hard toward her education, but the costs are too high for us to manage. I am still a student myself, and I need to pay for my classes and educational needs. At the same time, my grandmother lives with us. She is suffering from dementia, which means she needs medicine and proper care every single day. Watching her struggle without always being able to provide everything she needs is heartbreaking.
When we add all these responsibilities together, the monthly expenses grow far beyond what we can afford. Even though my mother does her best with her income, it is nowhere near enough to cover all the costs. We are left with constant stress, debt, and the fear of not being able to continue our studies or care for our grandmother properly.
