Hello, my name is Fiona. I want to be as transparent as possible because this is my first time doing something like this. At the age of 19, I said ‘I do’ to my high-school sweetheart who was 24 at the time. Everything seemed great. I was in love, married to the love of my life, I was couple months away from staring my first year at nursing school and he was about to enter his third year of college. We were so excited to be starting our life together.
However, he ran into some trouble at his college, so he ended up losing his scholarship. I loved this man so much I let him talk me into deferring so that I could loan him my tuition money so he could finish his final two years of school. He promised that he would find a job after graduation and repay the money I lent him. I didn’t think anything of it. I was young and I thought it was the wifely thing to do. He graduated top three in his class and again I thought we’d be OK.
Fast forward four years later, and we found ourselves broke and residing in his uncle’s garage. My husband developed a drinking problem because he couldn’t hold a job because of his marijuana habit and his disrespect for authority. I wound up doing two jobs so we could eat. I served as a night cashier at a gas station and worked as a daytime sales representative at a furniture store. I took care of this man for four years. Paid our rent, bought food and gave him money to fix his teeth because they started to fall out.
One day we got a call saying his estranged father passed away. He ended up getting a hefty lump sum which to this day I dont know the exact figure, plus he got an expensive car, and this is when I started to see his true colours. He started partying. There were times I didn’t see him for days. Yes he helped me with the bills, because I developed insomnia, so I left my nighttime job so I could start getting proper sleep.
I thought now he would at least give me back some of the money I loaned him. I asked him if he was going to fund my tuition but he refused saying he was going to spin his inheritance and turn it into millions. That never happened. He even wanted us to have a baby but given our hardship I refused, which made him start to act crazy. I was miserable, and we fought constantly.
During the pandemic I lost my job and now life was even harder than before. The rent was piling up because I was running out of savings fast. He ended up getting a job opportunity in another country in April 2021. He left a few days after he told me and I only heard from him that night he landed saying he arrived safe. I hadn’t heard from him since May 2021.
I tried to get in contact with him through family and friends but even they haven’t heard from him. I found his new Facebook page earlier this year. I contacted him telling him I want a divorce, but he blocked me after telling me to piss off. I met a wonderful gentleman last year who has been paying for my online classes so that I can move forward and get my life straightened out. He even proposed to me, and we would love to get married, but my husband refuses to grant me a divorce. I met up with a lawyer willing to handle my case. He mentioned that he can persuade a judge to approve my divorce because my husband abandoned me, and I haven’t seen him in nearly four years. Now I’m not asking for millions or hundreds of thousands of dollars. The lawyer’s fee is $15,000; however, I am not required to pay it in full right away. I only need $9,000 for the down payment and then a monthly payment plan will be set up for the rest of the amount.
I just need a little help so I can get my happiness. I have a job, but rent, food and bills is what my pay goes to. If anyone out there can help me out, then I will be forever grateful. I haven’t given up hope, and even if I don’t get any help, I still won’t give up. I know my series of bad luck will end, and soon this woman trapped will be as free as a bird.
