My name is Julia Armstrong & I am a 50yr old student @ Master Tattoo Institution of Miami Beach, Fl.
After a lifetime of many a careers, October of 2022 I finally decided to give up on what the “ normal careers” are and go for my dreams. Go for what is passion driven inside of me. I wanted to pursue a career as a tattoo artist. Ever since I can remember I have always been able to draw. Throughout my life I have had request from friends and co-workers to draw this or that for them as gifts to their family. Then in my early 30’s I dated a man that did tattoos, for whom I would design most of his stencils for his clients. He would constantly tell me that I should start tattooing and make some real money. But the machines were very heavy for me and I never felt comfortable using them. So I passed on the idea.
20 years later & here I sit thinking that maybe I should just give it a go & see what I can do. But I had no education on the tools used or how to propose them. So I decided to put myself into school so I can take on the tattoo industry armed with knowledge and skill.
You see the industry has ALWAYS been a tough one to get into. You either need to know someone who can get your foot in the door or you have to become a shop slave for two years doing all the grunge work for some pretty rough characters. But if you are a woman trying to get in the industry, forget about it! It’s like a “boys only club”, and to have a woman in your shop was total taboo & looked down on. So I’m sure you can imagine the disgrace and pure hell a woman would have to go through to get an apprenticeship.
Thank God times have started to change! By getting an education through most any of the schools out there for tattooing, your two year education counts as your apprenticeship because you are taught by some pretty amazing professionals, your hours in class are counted, you build a great portfolio and you get certified in Blood Born Pathogens . So by the time you graduate, you are ready to get out there and make your way.
Well I am just over 1/2 way through the program and I am stuck! I have no way to pay my tuition. I fell on hard times just after I started school back in September last year. My mother passed unexpectedly, I used up what funds I had saved up for the burial/funeral cost and I have been doing what I need to do to survive And stay in school. I could not afford to stay where I was living anymore so I downgraded my personal items to a minimum and moved myself & fur babies into my pop up camper. I ran into a gal who was nice enough to allow us to park our new home on her property for a couple hundred a month.
So the end of November my vehicle decided to stop working. I was doing a side hustle of door dash delivery for money to pay for rent and school. But now I can not work and I have not been able to pay my tuition for December and I have been locked out of class! I don’t know how I am going to fix my car or pay for school, but I really don’t want to lose my education!!! I have fought so hard in so many ways to get where I am and I just can’t bare to lose it all now.
So I am begging for someone to please help me! I have 10 months to go to get what I need to succeed!
I am begging for $5,000.00 so I can pay off the remaining balance of my tuition or use it to fix my car so that I can get back to work.
