My name is Terrice and I’m writing this request because I’m experience intense financial difficulties. For context, I graduated last year with a master’s in data science but I have been struggling to land a full-time job to pay off my student loan debt. I’ve applied to more than 400 jobs in the past year with only a few interviews but no job offer. I’ve tailored my resume and personalized my cover letter to any job I could apply for but I’m not succeeding at landing full-time work. The job market has been super difficult for me and other graduates.
My parents are low-income and did not save up money for me to attend education so I have been relying on borrowing from the U.S. government for student loans and grants. I’ve worked part-time jobs (e.g., research assistant, teaching assistant) to help pay for my living expenses and education but they have only made a dent in the amount of debt that I have.
I currently work part-time as a tutor for high school students but that is only part-time (less than 10 hours a week) and does not cover enough to pay off my insanely high student loan debt. The pay is also quite low ($18 USD/hr). I’m currently living with my parents and this is really not an ideal situation for me. I’ve grown up in an abusive household that is mentally, psychologically, and even physically abusive at times. I feel trapped and I really cannot stand living with them just to save money. I want to find my own place to call home once I’m financially stable and able to do so but that won’t be a reality for quite a while because of my stressful financial challenges.
My current situation is only getting worse as the interest accumulates and is crowding out money I need to pay for housing, food, and transportation. I always strive to be financially responsible and try to live a minimalist/frugal lifestyle but the weight of my student loan debt is stressing me and has caused me panic attacks in the past.
I would really appreciate the help with any amount that anyone could please provide to help me with my student loan debt. I’m trying my best to chip away at the debt but it’s quite difficult when I have no additional financial support.
