My situation may be different than others, but the results are not uncommon. I am about to be 4 months behind on rent. I have lived here for 9 years, most of them have been easy to get everything paid on time. My landlord understands life and has not been hard to get along with. She has a good heart, but she also has bills to pay.
In early May of this year everything changed with my health and my finances. A visit to the Emergency Room set in motion many tests and procedures. I went through a major abdominal surgery and am now recovering from that before beginning chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer.
I am past retirement age, live alone and receive Social Security. It does not cover my monthly expenses. I have applied for several jobs before this, but no luck. I did gig work until I couldn’t. Everything is behind now and I see nothing in the future to change that much. My first priority is to have a roof over my head, then I’ll work on the utilities.
The rental arrears total $2,500. And yes, that is a low number for 4 months rent. I need that before the end of September.
I’ll have to start some type work from home situation to support myself during the treatments. I have an idea, but that’s a different discussion.
My family and friends have been as much assistance as they could be. and it was greatly appreciated. But, they are living in the same economy we all are enduring.
I don’t like relying on others. Now it appears I have little choice. Asking strangers to help is a new thing and not what I ever intended to do. If anybody sees fit to donate t would be amazing and greatly appreciated. If not…I understand.
Thank you for reading this and considering the possibility of helping.
