Hello! I hope you are well. Like many of my fellow Americans, I am suffering financially from the direct and indirect costs of Covid19. I was supposed to start a job in March with Macy’s department stores customer service. Due to the shutdown in late March, I was unable to start training with them as it involved face to face interaction and like many companies, they had to postpone training sessions until it was decided what was the best course of action to take. I took a job with a 3rd party company that delivers packages for Amazon. After 3 days on the job, it was apparent that my knees were not the same and I later learned that I incurred painful patella tendonitis getting in and out of the delivery van on knees that were not used to this kind of work. I worked Door Dash food delivery and then my car transmission went out and required over $3,500 in repairs that I didn’t have. My life has been hard ever since with no family to rely on for help for transportation and walking any distances can be painful on my still lingering knee condition. My apartment complex has been able to put me on a payment plan but I am still behind in rent by about $1,200. I have since acquired a stay at home customer service job full time but the past due rent and utilities have been hard to bear and I am on a month to month rental agreement with my apartment complex and I am deeply afraid of what they may do when the eviction moratorium runs out on December 31. I have no family or friends that would be able to house me for several months as everybody has their own challenges during this time. Staying at a homeless shelter would probably be my only option and that would be a place where COVID-19 might get around rather easily. I don’t know. My new job will provide enough income to get by eventually but I am playing catch up now on past due rent and utilities.
I would like to end by saying I have never been late with a rent payment previous to the COVID-19 related shutdown. I think it was about 84 consecutive months of paying on time to any apartment I lived in. It was hard having to ask for a payment plan for rent since April. Very hard and humbling. I appreciate any help that you could provide and I also thank you greatly for your consideration in reading this. Blessings to you and your family this holiday.
