Overcoming the challenges of hard drug addiction and homelessness has been a journey filled with progress and positive change. I am proud to share that I’ve been drug-free for almost seven months and have successfully maintained a job for the past five months—a significant improvement from over a year ago when I was deeply entrenched in addiction and jobless for four years.
As I take a moment to appreciate the remarkable transformation. Not only have I conquered addiction, but I’ve also secured steady employment for five months, lifting myself from the difficulties of street life. This is the reason I’m here weighting yawl , reaching out for support. I want to share my story, hoping that others will understand the challenges of transitioning from homelessness to stability, especially when seeking shelter without a job.
Before landing this job, I was residing in a tent, facing the harsh realities of winter without proper accommodation. Now, with a regular income and the need to present myself well at work daily, staying in a tent is no longer feasible. I’ve been spending most of my earnings on hotels, braving the cold nights outside occasionally. The good news is that by spring, I anticipate being at the top of the city housing program’s waiting list.
I humbly ask for your assistance in securing funding for an apartment. Additionally, I am working on a project that holds deep significance for me. It aims to help others on their journey to recovery and spread the message that overcoming addiction is possible. I’ve initiated a Facebook page called “Recovery Journeys” and a Tik-Tok account with the handle @ibeataddictionsocanu.
