I recently graduated from university with a 4.0, merit-based scholarship, and multiple honor society nominations but I have seriously struggled to find a job. So far I’ve applied to over a hundred jobs and counting. Since I couldn’t find a job for the past year, my girlfriend dumped me and kicked me out a few months ago. It’s been unusually warm this fall so it hasn’t been that bad until the last two weeks, where temperatures are getting 30F-40F and it’s getting unbearable. I have thankfully found a part-time gig that gives me enough to not starve, but it is nowhere near enough to afford rent even with multiple roommates. I’m asking for donations to help me get some kind of housing, whether it be a tent, a room I can pay a few months in advance, or whatever. I had a car but it was hit three times in two days while I was staying in it and has become unusable, not to mention insurance, inspection, etc. have all run out. If I get enough donations my plan is to get my car fixed so I can stay in that during the winter. I tried contacting homeless shelters but they all want me to go into months long drug and rehab programs even though I don’t drink or do any drugs, and I’d have to stay as an in-patient and leave what little I do have in my backpack behind. And, of course, I would lose the job I just barely managed to get.
I know just about everyone is struggling right now in this economy. Even if it’s just a dollar it will help me not feel so alone. Thank you for your time and I hope you have great holidays.
