Dear Donors,
I am contacting you for financial assistance with my monthly living expenses while I look for a job. I am requesting $1,500/month for six months to avoid eviction and allow me to continue looking for employment. If you can connect me with a job, that would be fantastic! I am open to paying the money back once I get a source of income, or paying it forward on this website.
Background: About ten years ago I experienced concurrent tragedies that irrevocably changed my life. I do not wish to go into the details, but it involved family. I isolated myself, I fell into a deep depression, and I had to start my life over. I did not have any support from my parents because they passed away several years prior. I ended up living at a homeless shelter for almost five months until I found employment. At the conclusion of my ordeal, I learned the value of mental healthcare and I was determined to study psychology with the intent of becoming a psychotherapist.
In 2015, I enrolled at the local community college full-time and I got a part-time job to make ends meet. I did great in school and earned a 4.0 GPA, so I applied to a few universities and I was very fortunate to be admitted to UCLA in 2018. It was the first time in a while that I felt good about myself and my life. My dream of a career in mental healthcare was looking brighter than ever.
Then the COVID-19 pandemic struck, classes went remote, and I was stuck living in Los Angeles. I had saved some money to fund my relocation expenses after graduation, but that money was used to pay for my living expenses. Now, that money is nearly depleted and I cannot find employment. My monthly living expenses are quite reasonable for LA: I pay rent, my mobile phone, and my life supplies. That’s it. I do not own a car because I sold it when I moved to LA in 2018. Fortunately, the bus system can get me to my future job until I can save for a car. I do not have any credit cards, or any type of credit card debt, and I do not go out, or party. My lifestyle is the very definition of boring and I have mastered frugal living.
My hope is to get through this financial crisis without becoming homeless again because I made every effort to avoid my current circumstances. I do not have family to ask for help, so I am grateful that this web site exists. Any donation amount is much appreciated and I thank you for your time and consideration.
I hope everyone here asking for help is able to get their needs met and I wish you all the best this Holiday season.
Sincerely yours,
Anon Bruin
