I’d like to start by saying thank you for taking the time to hear me out. I’ll be blunt so I take as little of your time as possible.
I need $5,000 to avoid being homeless just in time for a cold, miserable winter.
Who you’re helping: you can call me Seven if you’d like a name for the cause. I am one of two queer young adults living in a household together. I am also disabled, with chronic pain and several conditions that make work difficult for me, though I am searching.
The situation: We were living in an area with minimum-wage jobs, middle-class rent, and upper-class grocery prices. I, the main provider in the household, was unable to make ends meet. I had to do things I am not proud of just so we could eat, and we still couldn’t pay the bills. We ended up moving a few weeks ago to go somewhere milk, rice, and eggs doesn’t cost $25 plus tax, with the promise of cheap housing and a job for my friend when we arrived. The house is more expensive than we were told, and the job is not available for a few months. We also had to move suddenly, and our old landlord is demanding two months rent from us (neither of those months are backpay) as well as withholding the entirety of our damage deposit. I do not have the money to fight this; I do not want to fight it. I want to pay her and never think about it again. The only job that has called me back would be an excellent opportunity for me to work from home, no longer destroying my body for minimum wage and ensuring I can work more— but it requires nearly a thousand dollars of my own money to take a course and an exam to be licensed.
The money that I am asking for is going to cover four things: the rent the old landlord is demanding; the new places rent; the phone bill that I have not been able to pay for several months; and the licensing so that I can break out of this cycle of working as much overtime as possible to avoid starving. People talk about life changing money. This $5,000 is lifesaving money for myself and my friend.
