We are a family of four living in a home we purchased around 20 years ago with a mortgage in Swiss francs. At the time, it seemed like a smart financial decision. None of us could have predicted how things would unfold. After the dramatic appreciation of the Swiss franc and the financial hardships that followed in our country, Greece, our debt increased instead of decreasing, even though we’ve been paying our installments consistently all these years. Today, after two decades, our debt has barely moved. This ongoing pressure has begun to take a serious toll on our mental health. We have already extended the loan term in hopes of gaining time, but the months go by and the anxiety only grows stronger. We are not the type of people who ask for help easily, but we are running out of options. All of us work, but our expenses are heavy. We are doing everything in our power to keep up, but the risk of losing our home looms over us like a dark cloud. The fear of losing it is overwhelming. If we can raise even the first €5,000 to ease the burden of our loan payments, it would give us a breath of relief.
