A while back my life was upended when one of my neighbors burned my home down by accident. I am currently living in a duplex that I can barely afford and my father lives with my aunt.
My father has been diagnosed with cancer in the lungs and kidneys and has end stage COPD. He has potentially beaten the kidney cancer through a new treatment to freeze it using chemicals, kind of like freezing warts from what I was told, however the doctors have stated that there were signs that they may not have gotten all of it and that it might come back if he is unlucky. My aunt has my dad perform all the maintenance on her property like building a chicken coop, rewiring the walls, building a new pantry to even tearing the roof down and building a new one when she decided she would rather not pay a contractor to do it despite knowing just how poor health he is in. These projects are his way of paying rent to her along with regular rent money he gets from disabilities/retirement. His body is wasting away every time I go over and see him and help with whatever project my aunt has him on.
Last year I promised that when I saved up enough money to afford a down payment on a home that he could come live with me so he could finally relax and enjoy what little time he has left. I plan on buying a manufactured home as it is significantly cheaper than buying a house and is something that I can afford and keep maintained myself. I am currently only eating ramen and simple soups with a little vitamin support just so I can save more money. Whatever little else I have is either saved or spent on the upkeep of my car so I can keep working as there are no buses that go near where I work.
