In November 2022, I was laid off from my job of 5 years. I am a single mom & my two children depend solely on me. One is a senior in high school & the other one is in 1st grade. I am currently working, but my yearly salary was nearly cut in half. I accepted the position back in May because my unemployment was ending and my savings was depleted. I do not qualify for food assistance because my income exceeds the limit, but each month I’m having to choose between keeping my rent budget or feed my children. My rent is due today, and they file eviction the next day. My car payment is also due & this is the only means of transportation that I have for me & my children. My rent is $1,758, and my car payment is $500. I had a budget of taking $400 out of my check each week for rent but I had to pay my car insurance, internet, & utilities this month.
