- Hello. I am a single mother of two older children. I work very hard doing in-home visits, and driving to meet clients for work. I am very dependent on my vehicle. My daughter was recently in a bad car accident that completely totaled her car, the insurance company does not want to pay her for a new one, so I have been driving all three of us to and from work while she and her brother both save for their own cars. Today, on the way home from a job my engine light came on. My car has over 175,000 miles on it, it’s a 2010 Kia and I’m faced with trying to get it fixed vs. the prospect of buying a new used one, which I don’t have the money for. My children are teenagers, but both live with me, they are both great kids. I have all the caretaking responsibilities but their father is absolutely no help financially. I have gone through the court system but they are not enforcing the child support order. He is behind over 6 months in child support, which would go directly to fixing the car situation for my daughter. He ignores my texts and calls. I am at a loss as far as what to do next, I’d like to come up with between $5,000-$7,000 to help with both cars, but honestly any amount would be helpful. I despise this situation and am struggling with depression in general right now, like many people that are financially overwhelmed. I am humbled to ask for help, but I feel I must do anything I can. The cost of living has gotten so high. We all work and are just trying to sustain that. Thank you for any help you can offer.
