I hope this message finds you well. Today, I humbly reach out to you for support in a time of great need. As a single mom, I face multiple challenges, and I find myself in an incredibly difficult situation with no alternative but to ask for help.
Recently, I made the difficult decision to quit my dental career to care for my eighty-six-year-old grandfather, who suffers from Dementia. Unfortunately, I have already experienced immense loss, having lost my mother, father, and grandmother in a short amount of time. With no one else to turn to, my grandfather’s care has fallen upon my shoulders.
Due to the nature of his condition, my grandfather is unable to take care of himself, and accessing federally funded-assistance has proven to be an arduous process. To ensure his well-being, I had to take a leave of absence from work, which was supplemented by unemployment benefits. However, my unemployment benefits have now run out, and I am left with the weight of my family’s financial responsibilities.
With two of my five children still living at home, the bills continue to accumulate rapidly. In the past six months, we have been surviving off my credit cards, creating a financial burden that is becoming increasingly unbearable. On top of that, my home’s roof recently started leaking, and the repair estimate stands at a staggering $26,000. To add to the mounting pressure, the monthly utility bills, particularly my P.G&E bill, have skyrocketed to $600, while the mortgage amounts to $1,500 per month.
I find myself at a breaking point, torn between pride and the desperate need for assistance. But the well-being of my grandfather, my children, and myself outweighs my pride, and I am here to humbly ask for your help.
