I finally got out of an abusive home environment I was in, but I had to take an unpaid domestic violence leave of absence to do it. Legally my job was required to let me take the leave of absence and hold my job for me, but they weren’t required to pay me for it. I have been trying to search for some simple freelance gigs here and there to make-up the lost income, but since I’ve been trying to get the many logistics of moving residences sorted out I haven’t had the time to do it. Now I’m in hot water after playing bills roulette, since without weeks of pay there isn’t enough money to pay everything.
I can’t ask my family for assistance because I’m moving to get away from their abuse, and while I do have friends that would help me, in this job market they aren’t able to. I’ve been so stressed out over the past year that I started to unconsciously pulling my hair out. I also exhibited so many adverse physical effects that I began trying to get myself out of the house by petsitting in other people’s homes, on top of my long-term full-time job that I was still doing.
I’m physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted—but more scared than ever now that I once again have a stable home and the possibility of a stable life at stake. If you can find it within your heart to help, please know that your generosity will not be taken for granted. You’d be giving to someone who has been just barely scraping by and performing customer service at home for years, to try to keep the peace with abusive individuals—that would finally be able to start to build something solid for herself.
