My mom passed away at the beginning of December suddenly from a hernia cutting off blood flow to part of her intestines. She was not strong enough to survive the corrective surgery, so we ultimately had to let nature take its course. We grew up in a single-parent home on welfare, and because my mom was very ill, my younger brother was her caretaker. She managed the Section 8 housing and covered utilities with state assistance. He is 27 years old, but he hasn’t been able to do much so far with his life since he was my mom’s caretaker for quite a while now. He became certified and could be compensated for part of the time he cared for her and their household.
When she entered the hospital, he then wasn’t compensated for any more of her care, unfortunately. Right now, he and I are struggling to figure out things and pull things together based on what we can find from her things and welfare resources. I’m reaching out now because we are in a situation where he does not have the funds to cover rent for December 2023 and January 2024. We aim to get him into a new job soon so he can afford to cover February.
Amongst the rent, she left two elderly sick cats that need dire care. One is severely matted and very thin despite how much she eats, and I believe she has a dental issue from chewing on one side of her mouth. The other cat has some GI issues, but he’s managing him okay. We hope to take her to the vet to be examined and get her groomed if possible.
Another issue we are facing is to be compliant with Section 8 housing regulations, the utilities must be kept on, and the balance is a few hundred dollars passed due at this point. Finally, the last of it would be his car; his windshield was cracked, and he did not have glass coverage. To replace his window and no longer be a safety hazard is $450.00.
I know this is a lot to take in; it kills me I can’t financially help because I have my own household I need to take care of and haven’t been working since she passed away to help get the affairs in order. Anything monetarily will help him during this time. I’m asking for $2500-$3000 to help him get on his feet and take the cats to the vet. Thank you for your time reading, and Happy New Year.
The Paypal I listed below is my mom’s that we had for her when she was with us and that I have access to for my younger brother Josh.
