I’ve worked in hospitality for thirty-five years. I always worked in the accounting department. I would also work in other departments when needed. I worked sixteen to eighteen hour days to provide for my family. Always tried to be there for my family no matter what. I raised three children alone and I thank God neither of them ever been in jail or had a drug addition. On 31 Dec 2012, I had a heart attack that put me in the hospital for nine days. This is where my life took a turn downhill. My daughter came to the hospital and after my release, brought me to Seattle, WA. I stayed with my daughter and got on disability. I paid her $500 month for rent. I received a small inheritance and was able to purchase a car. I helped my daughter with her bills and paid for her wedding. Needless to say my money ran out through helping her and her spouse get ahead. Well they purchased a house and there wasn’t any room for me. So I now stay with my son and his wife. This is a position I never wanted to be in; depending on my kids.
On 25 Sept, I was in a car accident. I was told by the towing yard that it was totaled. I’m still waiting for the insurance company to let me know the status of my claim. I doordash for extra money. The accident happened after I dropped off my last order. The insurance company is trying to dispute that I think. They told me on Monday (9 Oct 2023) that my claim was sent to the oversight committee to be determined. He said it would take around twenty-four hours before a decision is made and they would contact me when they do. On 12 Oct, I received an email telling me that they will let me know their decision in thirty days.
I’m retired now and receive one check a month. I doordash to supplement my income. Without a car, I have no way of making any money now. I’m trying to find other work, but no one wants to hire a sixty-nine year old in fair health. I pay my son $450 a month for rent. My car payment is $600 a month; that’s basically my check. I still have to make that car payment until the insurance company’s final decision. If they decide to decline my claim, then I’d have to make this payment until the car is paid off. I’d also have pay the tow yard. Now I have a hospital bill sent to me for $8,238.00 for the night of the accident. My bank account is literally empty until next month. I’ve tried borrowing from friends and family to no avail. Everyone is struggling.
I’ve never done anything like this before. This is definitely a humbling experience. If there is a chance that anyone would help me, I’d greatly appreciate it. Whatever is given is a blessing. Thank you in advance.
With sincere gratitude
