Looking for help to get caught up on life.

Dear Friend,

My name is Alex, and first, thank you for taking the time to read this. I know that people who open their hearts to strangers are rare, and I don’t take that lightly.

I’m turning 47 this month, and honestly, I never imagined I’d be writing a letter like this. I’m a hard worker, but right now I’m barely getting by. Rent, bills, and food take nearly everything I have, and I’m almost always behind on something. I’m also a diabetic, so I can’t skip my insulin or my prescriptions, no matter how tight things get. Some months I feel like I’m running as fast as I can just to stay in the same place.

I work from home because I don’t have a car. It keeps me working, but it also keeps me stuck. I can’t easily look for a better job or pick up extra work, and when I have to get somewhere, I sometimes pay for an Uber. Every one of those rides takes money I wish I could be saving.

There’s one part that’s hard for me to talk about. More than a year ago, my bag was stolen, and my dentures were inside it. Eating has been difficult ever since, and I feel very self-conscious when I speak or smile around other people. I find myself hiding my smile and avoiding moments I used to enjoy. New dentures cost about $2,000, and right now that might as well be a million. I would give anything to feel like myself again.

I’m not asking for a handout to live comfortably. I’m asking for a hand up so I can finally get ahead. Here is exactly how I would use a gift of $10,000:

$2,000 for new dentures, so I can eat properly and smile without hiding.

$3,000 toward my past-due bills, so I can get caught up and breathe for the first time in a long while.

$5,000 toward a reliable used car, so I can stop depending on rides and look for a better job or extra income.

If you are able to help, you wouldn’t just be covering a few expenses. You’d be giving me my confidence back, some peace of mind, and a real chance to build a steadier life. I would be deeply and humbly grateful, and I would never forget the kindness.

Whether or not you’re able to help, thank you for reading my story and for caring enough to listen. It means more than you know.

With sincere gratitude,

Alex Riley
