I’m a mother of five and disabled veteran. My middle daughter had major surgery last week. I was informed right before my child’s surgery that my daughter had to remain in the area next the hospital for 7 days after discharge until her first post-op appointment. If I did not agree to staying in the local area of the hospital for 7 days after my daughter’s surgery, my daughter’s very important surgery would be canceled with no future surgery date until later next year. I tried to get help from nonprofits to assist with lodging, but my request was too short notice for assistance. I also tried to get lodging for my family and I while my daughter recovered from the Fisher House but was told that they could only give us lodging for the 2 days my daughter was in patient. I explained that the lodging was not only needed for while my daughter was hospitalized, but also for her mandatory 7 days of recovery once she was released from the hospital. Fisher House was not able to assist me with the 7 days of lodging. After all things failed, I had to sacrifice my car insurance payment and the last money in my bank account in order to pay for lodging for my daughter’s recovery to include food and vital recovery meds and essentials. As result my car insurance has relapsed, and I am in dire need for financial assistance to pay for reinstatement of my car insurance. Without my car insured my family and I are unable to travel to medical appointments and other important locations. The 7 days lodging also caused me to sacrifice any money for Christmas for my kids. Although my kids are sad about having to delay Christmas gifts until the future, but they understand why. I am only asking for a financial gift to reinstate my car insurance if anyone can help.
