Guillermo, a 54-year-old man, has resided in New York City as an undocumented immigrant for 32 years. He recently lost his job due to his undocumented status and because he is gay, which was an issue at his construction site workplace. Now, without any income, he is struggling. His savings have run out, and he cannot afford his $950 portion of the rent for a small room in a three-bedroom apartment. With no funds for rent or food and no family in the country, Guillermo is facing extreme hardship. He was involved with the community as a volunteer for many years, educating the Spanish gay community about HIV prevention, Crystal Meth education, and prevention under ‘THE LATIN COMMUNITY ON AIDS’ in NYC. Yet, he remains hopeful, drawing on the vibrant spirit of his homeland and the dreams that originally brought him to the city. His story is a moving example of perseverance and resilience in the city that never sleeps.
