When the rain just won’t stop.
It has been difficult for my family over the past few years. First, we unexpectedly lost our sister. She was a smart, brave, and beautiful woman. At the time of her loss, she had been continuing her work of building a successful chiropractic office in our community. And as an African-American, she would have been one of few black chiropractors living in our community. She believed in using her training and tremendous skills to heal her patients. This, coupled with her kind heart, made her an asset to everyone who knew her. But in her prime, illness took her away from us, and we are still feeling her loss. This loss has now been doubled by the loss, not long after, of our mother. Our mother was an amazing woman. She was fierce and strong and beautiful and somehow managed to let none of life’s hardships get in her way. She provided for us and raised us. Our mom always told us that no matter what happened in this life, we would always have a place to call home as long as she was here. But now she is no longer here. And now to make matters worse, our brother is very sick with kidney disease. Everyday, he is fighting to stay alive and hoping ultimately to get on the transplant list. He faces chronic pain every day because of his illness and also has to endure the pain of the loss of both our sister and our mom. So not only do we grieve those losses, but also while facing another family crisis, we find ourselves struggling due to the serious financial issues we face on a daily basis. Even though I work a full-time job, I do not make enough money to cover our bills. No one tells you when you lose someone you love, not only do you face a future without them, but you also have to deal with the loss of financial support they are no longer able to provide. Without money to stay in our home, my brother likely will not be able to survive this predicament. We need money to pay the mortgage, as well as for food, medical costs, utilities, and other bills.
