My name is Sara. I was raped in October 2023 by a formerly close friend, who also happens to be my downstairs neighbor. The impact and trajectory of subsequent effects on my life following the assault- mentally, emotionally, physically and financially- have been nothing short of catastrophic.

I direly need immediate emergency assistance to cover the costs of my basic living expenses- particularly my rent. I have absolutely no funds remaining- no cash, credit, assets or income. I live alone in an apartment with my dog Sammi and my cat Lil Tank. They are my biggest supporters and boundless sources of unconditional love. It is my biggest fear to potentially lose them.
The cycle in which in the domestic violence unfolded was one that I was blind to until it was too late. Even in light of this, I attempted to commence several new jobs but have been unable to successfully retain employment in lieu of the toll this experience has taken on my mental health. My wonderful therapist retired at the end of 2023 and my health insurance coverage has since lapsed as well. I am still in the process of locating and obtaining the necessary resources to get back into counseling.
If anyone is able to help me to survive a little longer while I also continue to attempt navigating this arduous and complex recovery process, I would be infinitely grateful.
My rent is due in just a week’s time and I have no viable way of obtaining the funds. My utilities are on the verge of being shut off by PSE&G because I am unable to make the payments. I attempted to apply for assistance through the county office of social services but was not granted the approval for such. As a result of not being enrolled in these programs, I cannot even apply for emergency utility assistance programs at this time.
Your help would mean the difference between my being able to maintain my shelter/housing and keep my utilities on as opposed to the alternative of potentially ending up homeless, in which case I would have no safety net nor anyone to stay with… never mind the funds to relocate.
It is really difficult and I feel a great deal of shame and embarrassment disclosing such personal information publicly, but the constraints have become so dire and in need of immediate resolution so that I can continue the pursuit of regaining stability in my life and I just don’t know what else to do.
