Hi my name is Alica and I am a single parent with three kids at home and a list of bills that is growing bigger and bigger every week. I do not even know where to start because I have never had to ask strangers for assistance. How I got myself in the bad of a situation is disappointing, I am retiring from the military of 26 years next month and was hoping to have a job already unfortunately that has not happened and I am afraid that I may lose my house if I cannot pay my mortgage.
My road to retirement started last January when I started planning for my next phase in life after retirement, things were looking good until the house repairs started. I feel like every time I fix one thing something else breaks. Its winter and I have not been able to buy oil to heat my house. I bought this old house out in the country in Pennsylvania as my forever home for retirement. So far, I feel like I bought a money pit. The house is all electric so I have had to do a few upgrades to make sure that I stay compliant with the codes.
Then I found out that there is mold in the house mostly in the basement so we do not go in the basement right now. I had to buy a mold killer and spray the walls in the upstairs bathroom and the basement walls to reduce the mold. This stuff is good for three months so the basement will be closed off until the spring. My driveway is getting worst each month but I am making it due, if anything I can park down the hill if it gets too difficult to get up it. I hope to get a job soon, but until that happens, I feel like haven’t prepared enough to end up in this situation.
I have been struggling for a very long time, and did not tell the kids how hard things have been. I eventually had to tell them why the cupboards are empty and the fridge was empty, I have the greatest kids in the world, they understood that money is tight and did not ask for anything and have decided to get jobs to help with the household expenses. I have not been able to pay my car note for 2 months and my mortgage is coming due soon every bill is late and my cell phone is the only phone we have so keeping it on this month is going to be tricky this month. If anyone can help us, we will greatly appreciate any help that can be offered. Every dollar counts and will be used to keep us afloat. Please help I don’t want to lose my home.
