A Single Mother’s Urgent Appeal: Repairing Our Van to Get Back on Our Feet (National City, CA)
My name is Dulce Rangel and I am writing to ask for help for my three children and me. We are currently living in a shelter in National City, California, and we are working hard to save money to get us into permanent housing.
Our Immediate Barrier to Stability
We are facing a major challenge that prevents me from moving forward: my family’s transportation, a van, has severely damaged windows.
I am currently unable to work due to a stroke, which has put us in this difficult financial situation. While I’m focused on my recovery and saving every penny we can for a place to live, the cost of repairing the van is overwhelming.
We urgently need funds to cover two critical expenses:
Vehicle Glass Repair: The van’s windshield is cracked, and four side windows are damaged. This makes the vehicle unsafe, undrivable, and vulnerable to being towed, which would be devastating.
Estimated Cost for 5 Windows/Windshield: $1,300
Driver’s License Reinstatement: I have an outstanding $800 payment due to the DMV to get my license reinstated. Without a legal license, I cannot drive the van, even if the glass is fixed.
Total Goal to Get the Van Safe and Legal: $2,100
This van is our lifeline. It’s essential for getting my children to school, for me to attend medical and recovery appointments, and ultimately, for transporting our belongings when we find permanent housing. Right now, it’s a source of stress and a huge roadblock.
How Your Help Will Change Our Lives
Every donation, big or small, will directly go toward resolving these two immediate safety and legal needs. Getting the van repaired and my license back means:
Safety: My children and I will be able to travel safely and legally.
Stability: We can focus entirely on securing permanent housing without the fear of the van being towed.
Independence: I can drive my family out of homelessness and into our next chapter.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this letter with your local community groups in the San Diego/National City area would be an incredible help. We are so grateful for your prayers, support, and generosity during this challenging time.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
