My name is Seph and I am an enthusiastic entrepreneur, who has been no stranger to hard work over the years. I am based in the UK and have started a number of small companies which have all completed their life cycle after a year to two years generally, resulting in losses. Rather than seeing these businesses as failures, I have understood these to have all been part of my learning experience. I have always worked jobs and tried my hand at entrepreneurship alongside each other and have spent a tremendous amount of time working on my mindset over the past 10 years; changing the way that I see money and opportunities. As I have done this I have seen gradual improvements in my business performance, and after about a decade of trying, finally learnt how to be profitable.
I started to get good at what I was doing, building on previous lessons. I ventured into a property business in the UK in the year that covid-19 first began. After a successful first year, where I was able be to build a portfolio of 15 rental properties which my company held on lease from the owners. I did not own a single property but I guess, this gave me access in a way that would ordinarily be unaffordable. This gave me the experience of achieving multiple rents from residential property and understand the power of passive, or nearly passive income. In the second year in this business, I had met the right partners and was able to broker a deal that opened up a pipeline of properties that meant that I was able to build up to around 50 properties within the second year. It was an amazing experience and I finally started to enjoy what it meant to be profitable. This required me to draw on totally new skills and I needed to attract the right kind of talent to support me in the growth of the business. By this time I started to lose momentum because I lacked the necessary administrative support, being unable to attract the right assistant. I also started to experience some issues with some of the properties as it became clear that some of them needed repairs and improvements to be carried out. Since, my initial contracts were not so well structured, there was confusion regarding who was responsible when things went wrong, such as boiler breakdown or leaky roof. This meant that I had to start allocating funds towards repairs and improvements in order to keep my tenants happy. I later had an solicitor/attorney help me to draft sufficiently clear contracts to eliminate this from recurring. I understood that there clarity was needed, going forward, so that in every deal it was clear who had what responsibility. I had to fund the repair and improvements of a number of properties due to this lack of clarity and this really ate into my profits over time. In many cases I started to end leases early, in order to reduce to a more manageable number of properties.
Around this time (the beginning of 2023), my junior brother passed away. He had been living in Canada for the past 11 years, having left London where we grew up. This brought my business operations to a standstill as I was essentially a one-man-band. I ended bringing even more leases to an end, so that I could manage in my now, grieving state. I spent most of 2023 recovering and reflecting on the lessons learnt over the past 2 years.
Whilst I’m still very much excited about what I have accomplished and what I have learnt, I able to put new ideas into practice and I am ready to do so, however, I am down on capital and need to raise funds. I have decided that I want to venture into the USA business environment and have recently formed an LLC in the US in order to try my hand in building wealth, in what I consider to be the best business environment in the world. I am looking to attract support of any wealthy individual who is happy to support a new venture and help me to make my dreams come true.
