Hello,
I’m a 43-year-old guy currently living in California. I recently have been evicted from my apartment in San Francisco for falling behind on rent. I fell behind on payments after being let go from a well-paying job. I was let go for not wanting to take the required Covid shots. After some time, I was able to find another job but it was one that paid significantly less which is how I fell behind on rent and bills. I did the best I could to keep the place. I applied to city and state programs to help with rent but was denied by all. They wouldn’t even approve me for SNAP benefits.
After being evicted I had to leave San Francisco to live with some family in central California. I had to leave the job also. The commute is too far and I don’t have a car. Where I am now, there is no work and my savings are drying up. The unemployment benefits ran out months ago. My family is helping me out a lot with giving me a place to stay but they aren’t rich people and I feel I’ve taken up enough of their space and time.
I’m trying to gather $10,000 to pay off my current debts and move out to Texas where I will have a better chance of finding work. The $10,000 will cover the remaining back rent I still have to pay; the taxes I owe; the moving cost of shipping my stuff from California to Texas and enough left over to survive in Texas until I can find steady work. I plan on staying at an Budget Suites for about two months while keeping my stuff in storage. The Budget Suites has rooms set up for extended-stay that they market to transplants like me. I can probably get a decent used scooter to get around and do app gigs as well. Texas is definitely cheaper living than California. I should be able to get myself settled in no time.
Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated. 2024 has been a crazy and anxiety-filled year so far. I’m doing the best I can to stay positive and am truly grateful for what I have already. I just need some help getting to the next stage in life. This will help a lot.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and hearing my story.
