I Got Back Up. Now I’m Asking for a Little Help Moving Forward.
I’ve never been very good at asking for help.
I’m a veteran, a career driven woman, and a newly single mother to a little boy who has completely changed my perspective on life.
Seven weeks into my pregnancy, my son’s father kicked me in the stomach. That was the moment I knew I had to walk away from the life I had imagined and build something different for my son.
I left an abusive relationship while pregnant and started over. Today, a protective order prevents his father from contacting either of us, and I receive no financial support from him.
I don’t share that for sympathy. It’s simply part of the story that brought me here.
I’ve worked hard to rebuild my life, continue my career, become a mother, and create a safe and stable home for my son. But while trying to keep everything together, I also made financial mistakes.
I relied on credit cards. I spent more than I should have and told myself I would catch up.
I didn’t.
Today, I have approximately $21,000 in credit card debt.
I take full responsibility for that. I’m not blaming anyone, and I’m not asking someone to fund a lifestyle I can’t afford. I made the choices that created this debt, and I’m committed to fixing them.
What I’m asking for is a chance to reset.
Paying off this debt would allow me to redirect the money currently going toward credit cards into savings, my son’s future, and building the financial stability I’ve been working toward.
More importantly, I want to turn this mistake into something my son can learn from.
Someday, he’ll know that his mother wasn’t perfect. She made mistakes. But she took responsibility for them, changed course, and kept moving forward.
I want to teach him to live within his means, make responsible financial decisions, and understand that making a mistake doesn’t mean you’re destined to live with it forever.
So I’m putting my pride aside and asking for help.
If you’re financially comfortable and genuinely enjoy helping someone get a fresh start, anything you contribute would mean more than I can put into words.
$20 matters. $100 matters. $1,000 could make a tremendous difference. And if someone were able to eliminate the debt entirely, it would change the financial future I’m able to build for my son and me.
I also want to be completely clear:
I am not offering a relationship, dates, sexual favors, nude photographs, companionship, or anything else in exchange for financial assistance.
There is no transaction and no expectation.
I’m simply asking for a hand up from someone who has the means to give one.
I’ve spent most of my life figuring things out on my own. Asking for help doesn’t come naturally to me.
But I’m ready to get my head above water, learn from my mistakes, and build something better.
I’m hoping someone might be willing to help me take that next step.
