Little did I know it would take a lot more work healing from the injuries no one could see. I was once again at deaths door but this time by my own doing. I spent more years at the bottom of a bottle, than I spent being a better father or even a son. I pushed the people who loved me the most farthest away. Convincing myself I was doing it for them and there safety. By the grace of God I got a angel as a therapist who helped me face the trauma’s that haunted me for so long. She helped me to learn how to deal with the side affects that came with PTSD and physical disabilities. These accomplishments gave me the confidence to work on my relationships with those people I pushed away. Yes I am considered permanently disabled and I have limitations but that doesn’t mean my story doesn’t have more chapters to be written. The reason for me posting this is part of the next chapter. I have a Traumatic brain injury that caused seizures. My driver’s license was medically suspended but thanks to break through medical treatment and one heck of a battle, I finally got my license back and been seizure free for a few years now. I don’t have enough money to get a decent vehicle. I would to like to get a used SUV for $ 4000 to $5000. Safe AWD nothing fancy. I worked my butt off to get to this point after all these years. The next chapter is I am going back to school to learn a new trade (HVAC) that a program called VRE vocational rehabilitation is helping pay for. I also will be getting certified as a peer support specialist down the road. I feel using what I have went through and showing future combat veterans who come back home lost and want to give up that if you can find the soldier in you one more time that even the worst parts of life covered in darkness still can be overcome by becoming the light. I feel it’s my duty to pay it forward. My hope is even if you read this and can’t help , that maybe showing my vulnerability will help you reach out for help.
