Christian Parents of 3 College Students in a Financial Mess – Praying for Help

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to humbly request consideration for financial assistance during a time of significant hardship for our family.

Recently, we have experienced several financial challenges that have made it difficult to keep up with our basic obligations. Our electric and gas utilities are currently at risk of disconnection due to outstanding balances, and we are currently two months behind on our car payment.

A major contributing factor has been a rental property we own. Our current tenant has not paid rent and now owes approximately $7,000. We have made the difficult decision not to renew the lease when it ends on April 30, 2026. In the meantime, we have also had to cover utility expenses for the property, which has added to our financial strain.

At the same time, we are supporting three young adult children who are all full time college students. While two of them are working, they are managing their own financial responsibilities, including car payments which are necessary for them to commute, they do not support our bills. Our third child serves as a resident assistant (RA) at her college, which provides for housing but does not include income for daily expenses, so we assist her with necessities such as food and gas. She has not extra time for an additional job to earn money.

Additionally, we have faced several unexpected home and car repairs, which have further limited our ability to stay current on essential bills like gas and electric. In working to manage these expenses, we have depleted much of our savings in an effort to stay afloat. Our expenses/debts outweigh our income.

We have reached out to our utility companies to request assistance; however, we were informed that our income exceeds their qualification limits. Unfortunately, these determinations do not take into account the full scope of our financial obligations, including significant debt, ongoing hardships, and the responsibility of supporting three children in college.

We owe:
Electric = $2,513.65
Gas = $3,890.36
Capital One Auto = $1,140.90

In the past, our fathers were able to help us during difficult seasons, but both have passed away within the last two years. RJ, has also retired due to health issues, which has reduced our household income.

We are Christians who regularly attend church. This situation has impacted our ability to tithe consistently, which weighs heavily on our hearts. We know the importance of putting God first in our finances, and we remain committed to returning to faithful tithing and giving over to help others in need.  We would like to donate to others on this site rather than be requestors.

We did make a benevolence request to our church.  They told us they usually give $100 or $500 so our request is much larger than what they give.

We are doing everything we can to stabilize our situation and move forward in a healthy financial position. We are standing in faith, trusting that God is our provider and that He will help us overcome this temporary season. It is truly our desire to not only recover, but to one day return to a position to bless others and give generously, just as we have been blessed.

We would be deeply grateful for any assistance  you are able to provide during this time. Thank you for your consideration.
