We had needed a roof for a long time. About a year ago I finally got the ($25,000) down payment from a personal loan which I have been making on-time payments ever since. However, after being strung along by the roofing company for almost a year, the company ended up taking the $25,000 down payment and scamming us by not returning our down payment and not putting on a roof. Over 100 other families were also scammed by this company in the Port Saint Lucie, Florida area.  Although I have forgiven them in my heart, we are still dealing with a leaking roof that is causing structure damage and a health hazard. I am a middle-school teacher and cannot secure financing a second time until the loan that I already took for the roof that never got put on is paid off in a couple years. In the meantime, the leaking roof is causing more damage and mold problems. I cannot get a HELOC since I do not have homeowners’ insurance because the insurance company dropped us for having a roof that is too old. $45,340 will get us a new roof before hurricane season.
