Hello there – my name is Katherine and I just retired from 35 years of public service. My income drops this month because of that. I am not desperate or complaining – I have been blessed to have full time work my whole life.
I am seeking to raise $25,000. This is because a) my divorce 10 years ago had me start from scratch financially and b) my 70 year old home got a flooded basement a coupe of months ago and I am now in debt due to getting the basement fixed/waterproofed/re-do the finished part that was wrecked.
I have had a part time job since I was 13, and full time since I was an adult. I have never claimed any kind of financial help, ie worker’s compensation, medical leave, been unemployed, ever. I was raised by a mother with a strong work ethic.
I know there is endless need in the world, and my request is petty by comparison. I stumbled across Odetta Rockhead-Kerr’s You Tube video about ways to seek financial assistance and this site was the first one she mentioned so I am giving it a shot.
My goal for being retired is to do volunteer work rather than get a job for pay, which I definitely will if I have to. I didn’t foresee that big house expense and I am trying to keep money aside for future financial security.
My areas of focus for volunteer work are with youth and help for animals. I worked with youth in my pre-retirement job and there is great need for positive role modeling out there. And animals – no matter what they are – my heart is with all creatures. I would like to be an animal advocate and go to schools telling kids about how amazing creatures are – smart, have feelings, etc, to educate kids about being kind to animals. Schools in my area don’t want to pay guests to speak to kids but often have them if there is no charge.
So in a nutshell, I could relieve my financial anxiety around the house fixing and do work that I would truly love and excel at (but not get paid for), if I could be in receipt of that $25,000 cost for the basement. If anyone wants to help me, I would be able to send proof of the basement costs, and of me being engaged in volunteering. I am 100% being honest.
Thank you for your time in reading this and considering helping me.
