Hello friends! My name is Jennifer. I am a Mom and registered nurse from West Virginia. After years of suffering from many neurological symptoms and debilitating migraines, I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. This is a condition in which the lower part of your brain herniates out of the skull. This causes a blockage of cerebrospinal fluid, a fluid that cushions and protects your braun and spinal cord. In addition to this blockage, the herniation can also put pressure on the spinal cord and/or brainstem. This can lead to permanent damage such as paralysis. In order to treat this, I require a surgery. This surgery entails removing a portion of my skull to relieve pressure on the brain and spinal cord. As you can imagine I have to take an extended period of time off of work to recover, which means a minimum of 6 weeks with no income. It is imperative that I have this surgery so that I can continue to care for my 12 year old son and my patients. I have overcome an abusive marriage, graduated from nursing school, and tried my absolute hardest to have a good life for my son and myself. I know I will get through this as well, I just haven’t figured out how yet. I would be eternally grateful for any help that you can offer. Thank you for taking the time to learn about my situation.
