Empowering Children Through Digital Education
Tanzania is a developing country where many families continue to face economic challenges that limit access to quality education and modern technology. Although computers and digital skills have become essential for education, employment, innovation, and economic development, many children especially those from low-income families and public schools still have limited access to computer education.
The Quick Codes Technology Initiative was created in response to this challenge and is also inspired by personal experience. Growing up in difficult circumstances, I experienced challenges including long distances to school, shortages of teachers, and inadequate learning materials. As a child, I wanted to learn computer skills, but the cost of training was too high for my family. Computers were considered a luxury rather than an essential educational tool. It took many years before I could afford computer training and eventually own a computer.
This experience motivated me to create an opportunity for children to access technology regardless of their economic background.
The Quick Codes Technology Initiative will provide free computer and technology education to children aged 5–17 years, beginning in Igoma, Mwanza City, Tanzania. The center will introduce children to computers from basic digital literacy and progressively develop their skills in coding, programming, robotics, web development, digital creativity, problem-solving, and other areas of computer science.
The initiative aims to help children become confident technology users, creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and future innovators. Technology can provide opportunities in fields such as engineering, agriculture, healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, robotics, and scientific research.
To establish the center, we estimate that more than USD 80,000 will be required. Funding will support the purchase of at least 100 computers, laboratory equipment, furniture, internet connectivity, learning materials, office facilities, electricity, building rental, and staff allowances.
We invite individuals, companies, foundations, development partners, and technology organizations to support this initiative through financial contributions, computers and equipment, internet services, educational materials, technical expertise, or volunteering.
Quick Codes Technology Initiative is more than a computer center. It is a place where dreams are born, talents are discovered, creativity is nurtured, and future African innovators are empowered. Together, we can bridge the digital divide and give children the technological skills they need to build a better future.
