I am a retired person and am involved in my local church as an elder and secretary for the church council.
In this work, I do a lot of travelling from my home to our church premises, and to other affiliated church communities within the presbytery, to attend meetings, combined services and functions with those other communities.
Also, in my capacity as church elder, I also visit church members who may be admitted to hospital or going through some family or tragic loss issues, to pray and provide moral support to them.
I currently drive a car which is quite old, over 16 years, and recently, it has been having breakdowns, two in as many months just recently, which pose significant problems for me. Although the public transport system here is quite good, because of my advanced age and the associated health issues that come with it, I find it a struggle to use public transport, plus the fact that the buses and trains do not always cover the places I need to go to.
Uber services do come in handy when diversions occur, but the charges quickly add up too if my car is out of commission for a week or more, which is the situation I am facing this week.
Last Sunday, I had to abandon my car at our church premises due to an issue with the engine. I hitched a ride home with one of my church colleagues, and have been on edge all week, wondering if it’s safe to leave it there any longer. Fortunately, I got a friend to help with finding a tow service to pick it up and deliver it to a repair shop today. It’s all I need right now, to find the extra funds to pay for the repairs.
Car repair places charge quite hefty fees, and do not give concessions with regard to the customers’ age or financial issues. Since I receive a humble government pension, I cannot afford these huge repair bills when they occur, let alone buy a new vehicle, which would be much more ideal.
Good used cars suitable for my use can range from $5K to $10K. If I’m lucky and choose a car that’s been driven and maintained well, I could stretch its lifetime to 10 or more years.
It is my humble wish that someone who reads this, will find it in their heart to lend a helping hand, and donate any amount, no matter how little, to help me with my transport issues. I am also open to donation of a vehicle instead of cash.
I thank each and everyone of you kind souls, in taking the time to read this humble request of mine.
