My name is Ana and I started a small business doing translations and tours in the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. I live with my 91 year old mother who needs day care services. I am self employed and work as a a freelance tour guide and do written translations of official documents.
Tourism is the main industry on the island and many are employed in the sector. I work as a seasonal tour guide for the cruise ship season. During the open season, which runs from November to April, I require the services of an adult day care for my mother while I work. It is very difficult to get summer jobs as unemployment is very high (aprox.17%) and many tourist establishment on the island close during the off season.
When the cruise season closes is when I rely solely on my translation business (I am fluent in English and Spanish language) However, I own an obsolete computer and have no printer. Usually when I do a translation of a written document, I have to source a third party to print the document. So, I am in dire need of a reliable computer and printer which will cost approximately US$1,400 in order to modernize and update my working equipment. I would also want to create a space to work form home as this is the time when I take care of my mother at home. By purchasing furniture for a home office, will also make working more convenient and allow me to continue to generate and income from home whilst caring for my ageable mother.
