I am a 64-year-old recently widowed woman. For the last 12 years of my late husband’s life, he was unable to work or care for himself. We could not afford to pay for outside care, so I took care of him and worked a job. I tried to keep up with the medical bills and living expenses but was regularly just barely making it. I admittedly used credit cards and borrowed from my 401K to get by. Shortly after he passed, I had 2 separate major repair projects (water lines and then the septic tank) done at my home costing upwards of $40,000.
My late husband’s oldest son has chosen to live a foolish life on the streets – he’s 44. It is extremely hot where I live, and I have allowed him to live in a shed in the back that has an a/c unit in the window. This adds to my living expenses, not only for the extra electricity, but also food. I constantly encourage him to get help but have been unsuccessful so far. He does help me with yardwork though.
My granddaughter, whom I have mostly raised, lives with me.
I watched a video about this website where people who have may be willing to help people who don’t. I’m wishing, hoping that I could raise enough to pay off my small home, my vehicle (and my granddaughter’s) and loans so that I can start saving for the inevitable forced retirement that will be not too many years down the road. I currently have no savings at all. My goal is to raise $240,000. I know it sounds like a lot, but I could pay off my house, cars, and these loans and finally breathe a little.
