My name is Jaye Harrod, I’m currently 17 years old, and I’m an aspiring concept artist. The photo for this post is my most recent, yet unfinished, piece. I am proud of my art, and I believe I still have much more ahead of me to learn.
Suffering from different mental illnesses, including gender dysphoria, I’m learning to get through life. Things have been getting better, but I would still like to get my life a bit more stable. I’m asking for any amount of many that can be contributed to my health and to a potential career. For my health, I plan to one day get both top and bottom surgeries done, which can be pretty pricey. Even to get to that point, I would need to be able to afford Testosterone prior. I’m currently communicating with people, trying to start new therapy, and also figuring out what my insurance will cover. Many surgeons do not accept insurance, and will only perform with payment. Costs for myself will include travel as well. And even before any of this well get done, I would like to give my mother a hand in having to pay for my therapy/psychiatric sessions They’re becoming a bit much, and she cannot work physically without being in pain. If possible, I’d also like to help her recover her body through the surgery she would like to get for her hand and back problems. With only my father working, my brother who might be leaving for the military, and medical fees for my dog who we recently found out has AIHA, money has become short. I’ve been trying to find a job for a long time, but it’s difficult when I only have experience with a company that has now shut down, and cannot be contacted for reference.
As for a career, I want to be a concept artist. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, and when I was younger, my art was quite something. I never used to like my art, tending to dispose of my drawings and hide them from others. I have occasionally posted on social media to share my artwork with people who may enjoy it. Furthering my career is my main goal after my transition. I would like to spend whatever is leftover on new art supplies, such as hardware, classes/lessons, traditional supplies such as paints/canvasses, and eventually, college tuition. I have an idea of what college I would like to go to, and my major would most likely be illustration and/or animation. I’m entering my senior year in the fall of 2019, and I will be applying to colleges shortly. Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much.
