Help Curtis finish home
Hello, my name is William Curtis Wolbert I’ll be 69 in December of this year.
I retired back in 2014 with enough income to pay the bills and a small nest egg with which I bought a piece of property and began the process of building a modest 720 sq ft home doing the majority of the labor myself.
During the process of implementing this project I encountered a couple of expensive issues with the septic system and the removal of 2 feet of clay from the foundation area, followed by refilling the void with suitable material and then having it compacted. These issues dipped heavily into my materials funding. The project slowed to a crawl.
I solved the issue by going back to work and the wheels began to move forward again. All was well until about 6 months ago when budget cuts put me out of work. It has now become a struggle to keep up with the bills and eat. I am actively seeking employment with no luck at this time. I shall persevere until I am successful.
In August one of my neighbors noticed my struggles and in September I was blessed with a complete roof, materials and labor, from their local Baptist Church. What an incredible act of kindness. I am so very Grateful. The roof is now protecting all that lumber under it. I have continued my efforts inside by completing the plumbing and am now installing the electrical circuitry.
My funding is completely depleted. I am humbly asking for help. The windows are next and come in at a cost of about $3800 plus taxes. The doors follow and are almost $2400 plus taxes. Once the electric installation is inspected, the insulation is installed. I haven’t a price on that yet but it is in the hundreds. The heat pump will be around $5,000 that is installed. Florida requires fixed heating to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy or I would move in and install it later. Next are the interior sheet rock and the exterior siding and soffit materials. I intend to continue to try and save money by building the cabinets on site when I get to that point. Once I reach that point I’ll shop for used appliances. I would like to reach the goal of $15,000 that should bring this project to completion or at least close. I will continue to furnish the labor so these funds will go directly for materials.
There are so many people suffering loss from storms, losing jobs, health issues and those that are hungry. I wish for as many of those folks to get the support they need so they may get back on their feet. If there is anything left, I hope you’ll consider me worthy of support as well.
Thank you so much for reading this. You are Awesome!
