Hello all, buckle your seat-belts because this is a story and a half,
I have recently graduated from university, and over summer I decided to travel over to Italy to teach Italian children living in poverty English. This didn’t go to plan as the company I went off with were a scam. We were encouraged by many tutors to go out and get drunk, sleep around with Italians and all kinds of reckless stuff. We were not fed very well and lived on mostly cold rice and a few olives. It wasn’t for me, so me and a friend attempted to travel home as soon as we could. We ended up spending a lot of money (as you can imagine) trying to get back home to England as safely as possible. This meant expensive flights, baggage prices and we even had to stay in a hotel in France because our flight was delayed, we ended up spending around £800 getting home, and as a recently graduated student, it meant I was quite poor.
After we reached England (finally), I tried to contact my parents in an attempt of getting home. My family all dismissed me and refused to have me back in their home (my family have a lot of mental health issues and alcoholic tendencies). I’m an only child too so this was a SHOCK. This ultimately meant I was homeless and I slept in my car for 3 months (until August) whilst working in a restaurant and eating any scraps I could get my hands on. My parents knew all of this was going on and let it continue, this left me completely heartbroken. The fact I’d gone from having 3 of the best years of my life to this was so humiliating but I’m 22 and have to deal with it on my own now.
As Christmas is approaching, it would be nice to gather some money (I don’t have very much at all despite working over 40 hours a week, I have a very temperamental car and house share to pay for). I would really like to thank everyone that helped me during my time of being homeless. Families, friends and work colleagues all reached out to me, fed me, let me shower at their houses (you really do take warm showers for granted in every day life) and I think, without the help of those around me, I don’t think I would’ve lasted much longer in the situation I was in.
I thought I would give this a shot. Any donation would be amazing to paypal.me/sheps96
Thank you so much.
