My husband and I are expecting our first child in a couple of weeks. We are so excited, but I’m dreading going back to work already! The whole situation is difficult for me to problem solve, and I think about it constantly.
I finished cosmetology school two years ago, and have been doing hair while he completed an HVAC program and is now working an entry level spot with a great company. Our future is bright, but our current situation is tight- financially. We didn’t want to wait too long to start a family because I’m already 37, and he’s 42. We are late bloomers, but hard workers with big dreams.
I thought that going back to work would just be an easy thing I had to do, but now can see I was very ignorant to the financial and emotional cost. I don’t want to leave our baby for at least a year! I’m not even sure I can make enough to justify the cost of care, as we have moved for Jerrod’s school, and need to move one more time because his new job is too far a commute. Moving towns/salons basically means starting over with my income.
We have done our best to maximize the budget, but we just don’t have a lot of income from our new careers yet, and we’re still paying for the education. We plan on going down to one car as soon as we’re not upside down in one, and living closer to my husbands office- which should be soon. Currently my bills are still too high for him to cover month to month, and our lease isn’t up until January 31st. I’m only making enough to cover my bills with very little for savings.
His parents have offered to help as much as they can, but they are on fixed income and have a lot of medical expenses. We don’t own anything of value to sell. We’re true late bloomers! I’m delaying my work from home job applications until we know when baby is coming for sure, but my research has not turned up very many practical options so far. We live in a super small, low-income town, which is not helpful but will hopefully be remedied ASAP.
Any amount of money would help. Approximately $5,000 would give us time to figure out a work from home situation that includes me doing hair for clients from the house and/or hopefully finding some legit work at home situation in the customer service area. I’m also more than thrilled to consider a remote job opportunity rather than a cash donation. I’m obviously not above asking for money, but if I could earn it that would for be even better.
Thank you so much for just reading this. Your time and consideration is sincerely appreciated.
